| | Nero Software Doesn't Work I looked on http://www.iexbeta.com/wiki/index.ph...atibility_List it says that the Nero 7 Ultra Edition Enhanced v. 7.8.5.0 says that it is compatible with Vista. I am having some problems when I try to run the installation, it gets to the part saying Windows is configuring to do the setup for Nero 7 but after its done nothing happens. Can somebody tell me why nothing is happening and can somebody direct me on how to fix this? |

| | Re: Nero Software Doesn't Work Hi, Sorry for I don't have the link handy, but you could go to their support pages and look for a cleaner utility and use it for removing any previous entries. I accidentally installed v.7.0xx version and went into some problems and then used the cleaner utility for removing everything and the later installation went well. Good luck and hope this helps. PS: Thanks for the tip shared by others. | | Re: Nero Software Doesn't Work I've had a lot of problems lately with the recent Nero 7 version that is compatible with Vista. I sort of resented having to buy such a huge, bulky program because it's the only one that is Vista Compatible, but hey whatever. My advice is to custom install it and I would suggest leaving out 'Nero Home', since I've noticed Vista doesn't really like that part of the program. I've had to use Nero's Cleaning Tool to get Nero out of my system to get a fresh install. What Happened? Nero used to be all the rage among geeks as a CD burning program. Now Nero has gone & gotten way over-bloated. Good Luck, You may need it,...Frank "Russ" <Russ@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:CE04CF61-C0C6-4B45-9092-EBE6E9BB8F63@microsoft.com... > Im having the same problems, > was running nero 6 on Xp upgraded to vista, now trying to install Nero 7, > nothing > I have used the clean tool form Nero's site, still nothing. > > Now everytime i try and install Nero 7 from the Nero download page, i > always > get the install interuptted and thats it, maybe ill have to try the 411mb > file > > > "Brian W" wrote: > >> I found that the Full install version of Nero (from the website, 411MB or >> so) works properly >> >> "krnsamiam" <krnsamiam@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message >> news:17F07D26-4844-4FB6-B3C6-A50640569D58@microsoft.com... >> >I looked on >> > http://www.iexbeta.com/wiki/index.ph...atibility_List >> > it says that the Nero 7 Ultra Edition Enhanced v. 7.8.5.0 says that it >> > is >> > compatible with Vista. I believe now that Roxio, also a huge, bulky bloated program is Vista Compatible and, based on what I read here, is better in some ways than Nero, at least for the 64 bit version. |

Can somebody tell me > why nothing is happening and can somebody direct me on how to fix this? I had no trouble installing Nero 7.8.5.0 into 64bit home premium on a new system. I did turn off that user account control first and FWIW McAfee 8.5 Antivirus was not installed yet. I have had similar problems with upgrades of Nero (and also Acronis True Image) and in each case I found it necessary to delete the "temp" directory in the hidden "local settings" as Nero (and TI) had left over catalogs that caused the installation to hang. from the "search" type in CMD, hit return and cd to "local settings" There is a hidden temp directory there. I would do a "dir/s *nero*" and look for any previous or failed installions of nero and remove them - or just get rid of everything .. You should be able to delete the "temp" directory (and the files in it) and then immediately re-create it as in (make sure you are in "local settings" rmdir /s temp mkdir temp -- ====================================================================== Joseph "Beemer Biker" Stateson http://TipsForTheComputingImpaired.com http://ResearchRiders.org Ask about my 99'R1100RT ====================================================================== |

| | Re: Nero Software Doesn't Work I tried for 4 times to install Nero with different configurations and I could get rid of a relentless Window that kept coming up saying "Nero Home Has Stopped Working". I also tried installing it after disabling my AV and SP programs and to no avail. So I'm leaving it for now.... I'm going to try InfraRecorder Software, which is Vista Compatible (it says... and free and open source). http://infrarecorder.sourceforge.net/ I'm Not a Linux or open source fanatic by any means. As a matter of fact, I booted Ubuntu from a CD last night just for curiosity and I was somewhat unimpressed. I'm starting to see just how much hype there is around all that. Free and open source? I believe you get what you pay for. InfraRecorder may very well prove that to be true, so we'll see. I found Ubuntu to be extremely bland and dry-looking compared to Vista or even XP. Only Eye candy? Maybe so, but when we're at our computers we generally look at the screen an awful lot, so it's worth it to have a good looking program. I appreciate Vista's up-ing the bar on goodlooking desktop graphics. It's long overdue and about time. Now how'd I get here from talking about Nero? I have done at least 20 nero installs and starting about 6 or for sure 7 they loaded their software with the preverbial kitchen sink. At the end of the install (assumeing you get that far) uncheck all options except quick launch of StartSmart. I think there are 4 pages of options maybe 5. Be sure to uninstall nero and delete that temp directory before another install. |
