If you check the HP web site
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...&lang=en&cc=us
You will find hat your scanner is not supported under Windows Vista.
This is HPs decision.
If you wish to use an HP scanner under Windows Vista then you will need to
buy a newer model.

Re: scanners manufacturer list

The fact that HP is leaving to to blow in the wind does NOT bother you?
Don't you get it. They have "abandoned" you as a customer and they don't
give a damn about you. Yet you blame Vista because HP has made the decision
to leave you flapping in the breeze.

How strange human nature is!

Re: scanners manufacturer list

A quick comment. I have a Canon scanner that I couldn't use until recently.
All of a sudden Canon had "updated" drivers for Vista.

Get this. They changed *one* file by ***one*** byte to enable a person to
use the Windows XP drivers in Vista.

All it took was for someone to analyze the old code.

I got a Microtek scanner years back, it has Vista and Vista 64 bit
drivers.

Epson does NOT go crazy to catch angry people, they abandoned me when I
tried to run Windows 2000 and refused to write a driver for a scanner
that had cost $1,200 three years previously! I bought the Microtek for
$80 and have never regretted it.

When XP 64 came out, I "decorated" the .inf file for my Microtek
scanner, took only a couple of minutes and it worked.

Since then, Microtek has released drivers for XP 64, Vista and Vista 64
for my rather elderly scanner.

Some people want your business, some don't.

Kudos to Logitech, their SetPoint software has a conflict with Quicken
in Vista 64, I was told they were re-writing the driver to fix it AND
I'd be notified when it was ready.

There ARE class acts in this business and I think it helps to make sure
people know about them!

Shameless advertising plugs follow:

BUY MICROTEK
BUY LOGITECH

Re: scanners manufacturer list

HP has the same message for my 5470c scanner, BUT the XP drivers and software
installed just fine and the scanner is also working just fine with the HP
software. I haven't tried Vista Ultimate's Windows Fax and Scan however.

I'm not sure about that -- I doubt she would have stood for the present
mess. It was she who made HP backtrack and issue 7 CD sets to reinstall
XP and applications instead of taking a massive slice of the hard drive
in a hidden partition without telling the customer they were not going
to be able to use all of their purchased GB's.
