Vista - Vista ready... please control that logo

Hi all

Me again, this time is to ask to those who deliver vista ready logo to stop
authorise the use of the logo to those who sell laptop with 1 gig of ram or
less with cheap video card with share memory.

I have a station and base on my experience vista need at least 2 gig of ram
with a video card that have on board 256 meg ram.

A Vista Ready machine can run with 512MB of RAM and a graphics card of much
lower spec.
That is he whole point of minimum system requirements. You can start Vista
and run a couple of applications on a minimum system. Of course you may not
get the Aero glass effects and your performance may be limited.
This is why there is also the Premium Ready logo program with a higher
minimum spec.

While what Mike says is for the most part true, You Luc are absolutely
correct in complaining about how f&cked up the Windows Logo Program is.
And endusers seemingly still think that they can implicitli trust
things like that and the upgrade advisor...tsk, tsk!

I had no problem whatsoever understanding the difference between "Vista
Ready" and "Vista Premium Ready". I can't remember how many dozens of times I
saw the differences explained in various articles, many months PRIOR TO the
release of the OS. Of course, I read these articles BEFORE I decided which
computer to buy and which hardware I wanted incorporated into the computer.
It seemed like common sense to me.

However, for those people who choose to purchase something when they have no
idea what they are purchasing, I would suggest that Microsoft should change
the "Vista Ready" logo to "Vista Basic Ready". Of course, changing the logo
will mean nothing for those people who do not research, before buying, what
the word "Basic" means as it pertains to the Vista OS.

You shouldn't blame Microsoft too much for the problem. The computer
manufacturers will slap together any and all hardware necessary to meet the
minimum requirements so that they can sell their inventory of hard drives,
graphics chips, memory sticks, processors, etc., etc., etc. Also, the third
party vendors of these hardware products don't want to see them unsold so
they label them "Vista Ready". Moving inventory in this manner may not be
moral or ethical but it is certainly legal.

You should treat everything you read with a little skepticism. You can
either trust the author or research the matter yourself in order to verify
the veracity of the statements made. The choice is yours to make. You will
either gain from the experience or you will lose from the experience
depending upon the path you choose. You must also realize that intelligence
has nothing to do with common sense, just as hearing has nothing to do with
listening.

This is not an "I told you so" reply and it is not meant to be a "You're
stupid" reply. It is merely constructive criticism. I have been
"constructively" criticized on many occasions during my lifetime and I
deserved every bit of it. I learned from it and I thank those people who
criticized me. I have no animosity toward anyone.

The minimum system requirements are not based on what any individual user
needs or uses. Some people will buy a new computer with Vista and never use
it for anything except email and browsing the internet. If everyone was the
same, there would only be one computer company, one harware company, and one
software company.
