One click shut down?

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA512

For reasons that defy logic, MS has always forced you to make 3 mouse
clicks just to turn the computer off. There has got to be an easier
way. Anyone know how?

If there isn't, I will settle for a two click shut down. Anyone know
how to change the little (') button from sleep to shut down?

Now, before the Linux trolls descend on this and say MS is bad, I will
point out that most Linux desktops use the same brain-dead 3-click
procedure.

Re: One click shut down?

Why not just place 2 shortcuts on your desktop, one for Restart and one for
Shutdown.

Create a new shortcut on your desktop. Browse to
C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe

Right click, go to "send to" | "desktop create shortcut"

After it has been created, rename the shortcut to Restart Computer. Then go
to the
shortcut's properties and paste "C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe /r /t 002"
in the target line. This will restart the computer after 2 seconds.

Create a 2nd new shortcut for shutdown.exe. After it has been created,
rename the
shortcut to Shutdown Computer.Place "C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe /s /t
002"
in the target line. This will shutdown the computer after 2 seconds.

In the above examples DO NOT include the quotation marks on the target line.

Now when you want to either shutdown or restart, just double click on the
appropriate icon.

Re: One click shut down?

There are one click shutdown tweaks for 9X, 2K and XP.
I'm sure they're will be one for Vista.

As a matter of fact a little googling came up with this video:
http://www.metacafe.com/watch/361176...utdown_button/
that explains now to do it.

Re: One click shut down?

push the power button on the box itself. alternately, most multimedia
keyboards have sleep buttons which can be programmed to do other functions
(include power off)

control panel/power options-left window pane/choose what the power
buttons do, there is your two click solution.

If you want a one click shutdown gadget here is one I just did a
quick search for
http://tinyurl.com/2swpmf
I might even keep it and see how handy it is lol

one more idea

If the main power button on your PC is close and easy to get to. try
that for a one click solution, when I push the power button on my
PC it goes through the shut down sequence (not the 4 second hold
hard shut down)

"push the power button on the box itself."

Do you play Russian roulette, often?

I missed that distinction on another poster's reply and mentioned
something about Russian Roulette, which I realize I shouldn't have. But
I've never set the BIOS to do that. Replacing a mouse is easier than
replacing a computer's power button. ;-)

Re: One click shut down?

By a press of my PC button on my tower, my PC shuts down.
