| | Renaming the Network icon on the Desktop Hello, The context menu which appears when you right-click the Network icon on the Vista desktop doesn't have a "Rename" item. Is there any way to rename this icon or must it stay as "Network"? Thanks. DJ |

Click Start, type Regedit.exe and press ENTER Navigate to the following location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\MuiCache Double-click "@C:\Windows\system32\NetworkExplorer.dll,-1" Set its value data accordingly. (Type the new name you want to assign) Exit the Registry Editor. -- Regards, Ramesh Srinivasan, Microsoft MVP [Windows Shell/User] Windows® Troubleshooting http://www.winhelponline.com "David Jackson" <someone@somewhere.com> wrote in message news:OM3iZ4slHHA.1624@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... Is there any reason why Vista buries this away in this way when earlier versions of Windows allowed the name to be changed through the UI? DJ |

No idea why this UI option was discontinued in Vista though. -- Regards, Ramesh Srinivasan, Microsoft MVP [Windows Shell/User] Windows® Troubleshooting http://www.winhelponline.com "David Jackson" <someone@somewhere.com> wrote in message news:O2ebD4ulHHA.1820@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl...
