| | Firefox and the recent Windows Vista update I realize that Windows does not provide support for Firefox, this is obvious. But my problem with the browser seems directly related to the Windows Update that I installed this past weekend, so I'm posting my question here. Also please note that I have no choice but to use Firefox. I cannot use IE because I depend on Microsoft Outlook Web Access for my job, and Microsoft OWA is not yet compatible with Vista/IE7. (I know, it's odd, but Firefox is the only browser I know of at the moment that works on Vista and also runs OWA.) So now that this is established, here is my problem: I'm using Vista home premium edition - been using it for several months without trouble. Saturday night, I download several Windows updates, and then Sunday when I opened up my Firefox browser, it was shaking. Actually, it's not the whole window that shakes. The contour of the window stays in place, and the menus too. Just the pages themselves bounce up and down. They just shake. Also on Sunday when this problem occurred, I noticed all my Firefox bookmarks were gone. And also, not every page starts to shake right away. Sometimes they stay still for a while, then when I click on something or navigate away, the shaking starts again. I immediately scanned for spyware and viruses - no problems there. I scoured the internet for solutions. I read about other Firefox/Vista users that used to have the same problem with shakes and bounces - and their problems were all found to be related either to customized toolbars or to "themes/skins." I've used neither. I have default everything. Nonetheless, I tried all the standard fixes. I tried, as some others suggested, to add new bookmarks and see if that stopped the problem. It didn't. I even uninstalled Firefox, downloaded the install file and reinstalled. No change. So what's the deal - did the Windows update this weekend intentionally cripple my Firefox use? Any fixes? |

| | Re: Firefox and the recent Windows Vista update I had that happen when I removed some items from a toolbar. Putting something back stopped the shaking. I suppose you have tried checking the Mozilla boards? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Window_shakes Have you tried starting it in Safe Mode? You might try uninstalling any Add-ons. | | Re: Firefox and the recent Windows Vista update Are you using the latest firefox ? I have Vista Home Basic, did the updates, and no problems at all. All I think of is there is a possible problem with one of your add ons. Try unloading them. The loss of your bookmarks is bizarre. It suggests something is not right, true, but the program is fundamentally sound. =?Utf-8?B?TWlzc1ZpY3Rvcmlh?= <MissVictoria@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in news:4AE0D4FF-018F-40D8-9162-E6059A3160E8@microsoft.com: > > > So what's the deal - did the Windows update this weekend intentionally > cripple my Firefox use? | | Re: Firefox and the recent Windows Vista update I'm having the same problem. It just started happening yesterday. I uninstalled and reinstalled it too. No good. | | Re: Firefox and the recent Windows Vista update I just started Firefox in safe mode. I checked the box "Reset Bookmarks to Default". It fixed the shaking problem............so far. Any fixes? > What updates were downloaded? I'm using firefox and thunderbird and have not experienced any of the problems with shakes. I believe in the past, people just reset there bookmarks, and one person added a different theme and it went away. But that was then, this appears to be something new. Strange that it would start happening again. |

Any fixes? I just accessed my corporate OWA from within IE7 on Vista without issue. What errors are you receiving when you attempt to access your OWA from IE7/Vista? Lang |
