| Vista Business 64-bit | Re: My sidebar rearranges my gadgets Motivator your fix worked like a charm. Did you have to reboot after the first regedit to take ownership? I kept getting access denied messages when trying to give full control to administrators. I still got one after the reboot but the permission changes took. Thanks for the help on this...it is much appreciated. Okay, people - I have it finally! The problem is in the bugged executable "sidebar.exe", for some reason after I updated to SP2, it was replaced with the bugged one, but having the same version of 6.0.6002.18005.The good file size is 1.17 Mb, bugged one is 1.48Mb. You can take it from Vista x32 - it will perfectly work from Program Files folder despite it's x32. To get the proper copy of file I can post it to some filehostings, but you can find it by themselves. Then, to change the file you'll need to get proper permissions. To have these permissions you need to install "Take Ownership" regpatch and take the ownership of the whole folder Windows Sidebar, because the script doesn't work on executables (for some reason) and set Administrators group to have full access of the file "sidebar.exe" (located in Program Files\Windows Sidebar folder). Change file, close sidebar, then start it again. Now set the proper order of your gadgets and restart sidebar. That's it! To make regpatch just copy text into text editor and save it with proper name: ___________________________ InstallTakeOwnership.reg: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\runas] @="Take Ownership" "NoWorkingDirectory"="" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\runas\command] @="cmd.exe /c takeown /f \"%1\" && icacls \"%1\" /grant administrators:F" "IsolatedCommand"="cmd.exe /c takeown /f \"%1\" && icacls \"%1\" /grant administrators:F" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\runas] @="Take Ownership" "NoWorkingDirectory"="" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\runas\command] @="cmd.exe /c takeown /f \"%1\" /r /d y && icacls \"%1\" /grant administrators:F /t" "IsolatedCommand"="cmd.exe /c takeown /f \"%1\" /r /d y && icacls \"%1\" /grant administrators:F /t" ___________________________________ RemoveTakeOwnership.reg: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\runas] [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\runas] Good Luck! | Vista Business X64 | Re: My sidebar rearranges my gadgets Hello my friend! Actually I've stopped to use Sidebar.. At first, after I published this article, I found the same "Windows Sidebar" folder in "Program Files (x86)" So, working 32bit sidebar version was already on my machine, and I started to use it, by just renaming the link in registry. Then I've found that sidebar has start to consume 50% of cpu power, so I've returned to 64bit version - but nothing has changed. Suddenly I've realized that without windows sidebar I have a lot of screenspace on my notebook and also my system is loading much quicker. So I've decided to wait for some fixes from Microsoft.About Take Ownership regpatch - it works immediately after installation. Good Luck! |
