Remote Desktop Disconnected error

I am attempting to use my Vista Ultimate RDP client to connect to a Windows
2003 SP2 Terminal (Application) Server, and get the following error:

"Because of a protocol error detected at the client (code 0x1104), this
session will be disonnected.
Please try connecting to the remote computer again."

When I connect to this same Terminal Server using my XP RDP client, it works
flawlessly.

Does anyone know what the solution is to this problem?

Any error in the server's event log ?

Re: Remote Desktop Disconnected error

There are no event log entries of any type on the Terminal Server, nor any
entries on the Watchguard router on the destination network.

Re: Remote Desktop Disconnected error

What are the settings in the "Connection" tab in the remote desktop client ?
It should be "Always connect".

Re: Remote Desktop Disconnected error

Yes, it's set to Always Connect. It's my understanding that it has to do with
the 'Sliding Windows(TCP)' size in Vista...I'm surprised that more people
aren't complaining about this issue.

Re: Remote Desktop Disconnected error

The only thing I can tell you is that I connect to various W2K3 servers with
RDP from my Vista laptop and I never had this problem...

Are you on the same LAN than the server ?

Re: Remote Desktop Disconnected error

Thanks for all your responses, ThePro.
The KB article you refer to below wouldn't apply as I am running Service
Pack 2 on the Windows 2003 Terminal Server in question, and the TCPIP.SYS
file in question is newer than the one in this particular hotfix. Also, this
is a connection from a Vista RDP client to this server over the
Internet...not sure if it works over the LAN or not.

Re: Remote Desktop Disconnected error

When you say "over the Internet", is it a VPN ? Is the local LAN IP scheme
of the server and the client different ?

i.e. is the server in the 192.168.1.x subnet and the client too ?

Re: Remote Desktop Disconnected error

NO VPN. The Terminal Server is on a private IP address, while the Vista RDP
client is connecting to it over the Internet, using whatever dynamic IP
address it receives from it's ISP at the time.
