| | Vista Fonts Oh, oh. I guess I accidently deleted the wrong font in Vista32 ultimate. Now when I go to change the font size, the 96 dpi std. set has a line thru it, like it's not available anymore. (see the attached screen shot). Also, notice how the dialog box can't show all the text. I guess Vista took on a sub font that's way to large for the dialog boxes. Trouble is, I don't know which font it was that I deleted and I didn't realize there was a problem before I emptied the trash. Smooth move, eh?!!! Does anyone know where I can get the stock fonts for VU32? I really don't want to have to re-install Vista. Thanks for any help. Mike (without a job if I don't fix this soon :-) |

| | Re: Vista Fonts Try using System Restore to the point in time right before you deleted the font. | | Re: Vista Fonts Press the Windows key + R. In the Run box type sfc /scannow After System File Checker scan, which may take awhile, you can confirm the font folder repair by looking at the cbs.log (towards the end of the log) in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS. You may have to restart your computer to see the fonts restored in Control Panel > Fonts. "Mike" <Mike@NOSPAM.com> wrote in message news:OeCqnw%23mHHA.4896@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > Oh, oh. | | Re: Vista Fonts Hi Tim, Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, the last restore point I have goes back too far. I'm a little chicken to try a such an old restore point. | | Re: Vista Fonts Well, the backups for the system fonts are under the C:\Windows\winsxs\ folder. Unless those have been deleted, sfc /scannow should work, and restore your fonts (around 197 that are visible). To create only SFC information gleaned from the cbs.log in a file called sfcdetails.txt, and find sfcdetails.txt easily, open Command Prompt (using the shortcut in Start Menu\Programs\Accessories). By default, the prompt starts in C:\Users\(Your Name). Type: cd desktop Press Enter on your keyboard. Then Copy and Paste this at the prompt: findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt Press Enter. Sfcdetails.txt should then appear on your Desktop. Does it mention anything about fonts? "Mike" <Mike@NOSPAM.com> wrote in message news:%23nXxs%23$mHHA.4516@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > Hi dean, > > I did it, but no joy yet. | | Re: Vista Fonts I did this last night. The SFC file does mention fonts. However, after the "sfc /scannow" I did yesterday and after re-boot again this morning I see two new fonts in the sys fonts folder. Perhaps they were there yesterday too and I missed them being blind by frustration. The are named exactly the same: ADMUI3Lg They are shortcuts that lead to: "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS2\Support Files\Contents\Windows\System\ADMUI3.fon;" I tried to delete one of the above font shortcuts (don't need two, right?!) but I can not delete either of these fonts as Vista errors at "Unknown Source" . At any rate, my font problem remains to haunt me. Perhaps I need to run a registry clean up tool of some type. Do you know of any good ones for VistaU? Maybe this morning I'll try reinstalling Adobe Illustrator and see what happens. I'll keep you posted on the results. Thanks for all your help Dean, I certainly appreciate it. | | Re: Vista Fonts - Missing Font problem SOLVED Problem solution follow-up. Segoe UI Font set was the missing font that messed things up. A friend of mine sent me the font set, I installed it and everything went back to normal. Phew! I had no idea that a font set called "Segoe UI" was a critical font for Vista. Live and learn. Suggestion: Back-up your Segoe UI Font set for future needs. Mike "Mike" <Mike@NOSPAM.com> wrote in message news:OeCqnw%23mHHA.4896@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > Oh, oh.
