    file associations

    Hello Everyone - again!

I have recieved some word documents via attachments that will not open
when I try to do so.

I have to set a file association and this I have done - but I still
cannot open Microsoft word documents from within windows mail. I go to
control panel and programs and associate .DOC files with microsoft
word (which I have installed) and then when I go back to windows mail
and attempt this action - no can do!

    Why???

    Help - alanbriggs

Did you enable opening attachments in Windows Mail?

Thanks - I tried your suggestion but to no avail!

I unchecked the box and retried to open the word files from within
    windows mail - no luck.

    Any other ideas?

    Regards - alanbriggs

Windows Mail is very sensitive to interference from certain antivirus
    programs. Read http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3
If you have McAfee or Norton antivirus, uninstall it. Reboot and try
Windows Mail again. Once you get your email working properly,
download and install a less troublesome antivirus program such as the
free Avast. Whichever antivirus program you keep, be sure to
    disable its email scanning option.

Alan - did you solve this? I have just bought a laptop with Vista installed and have the same problem. Can't believe Microsoft would make such a basic error!

Any help will be gratefully received.
