| | Re: Windows Explorer always opens a new Window Interesting one, Alex. Thanks for sharing the info! -- Regards, Ramesh Srinivasan, Microsoft MVP [Windows Shell/User] Windows® Troubleshooting http://www.winhelponline.com "Alex Resnik" <Alex Resnik@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:63FF7BC4-302C-4442-A157-19045AA2A157@microsoft.com... Hi Ramesh, I called MS support I they found a workaround solution that worked for me. Here is a copy of the email sent to me from tech support: "Resolution: Alex, we tried changing the setting in folder options, we tried a clean boot, tried booting to safe mode, explored system restore, tested a new user profile, disabled Norton Internet Security and finally transferred all your data and settings to a new user profile, using Windows Easy Transfer." As stated above they created a new user profile in which the problem did not occur. Thanks for your efforts |

This is really annoying. Does anyone have a fix? Should I only be focused on "Context Menu" items? If so, I only see two non-Microsoft items: Beyond Compare (have used this for ages), FolderSizes (likewise) and WinZip 4.1. Could any of the other shell extensions be screwing things up? |

I'm not interested in creating a new user profile just to fix this bug in Vista. When can we expect a fix for this in the form of a installable hotfix? |

| | Re: Windows Explorer always opens a new Window >> I'm not interested in creating a new user profile Perhaps you can create one and test if the problem is seen in that profile also. It would atleast help us determine if it's a per-user or pre-machine problem. After testing, you can delete the additional user account later. -- Regards, Ramesh Srinivasan, Microsoft MVP [Windows Shell/User] Windows® Troubleshooting http://www.winhelponline.com "jminiman" <jaredscottmin@gmail.com> wrote in message news:1181057971.182550.246020@h2g2000hsg.googlegroups.com... | | Re: Windows Explorer always opens a new Window Hi Ramesh and All, I want to tell everyone about my last post about the workaround that you should not attempt it unless your really desperate because you have to do alot of reconfiguring of your programs after. At least for me I decieded it wasn't worth the trouble and reverted back. |

Third party shell extensions shouldn't be able to change this behaviour, should they? C. |

I finally tracked through my Restore Points and found that the culprit was the Sony USB driver for my camera - nothing to do with Explorer, so why did this break explorer behaviour? (BTW, the driver uninstaller detects an unsupported OS, and won't uninstall, even though the Installer was quite happy to give Vista a try!) Anyway, I now have 400MB of registry dumps from before and after installing that driver, but I couldn't see anything in the diffs to explain this. Rameesh, I can email them to you if you care to follow up on this. Email my display name @actrix.co.nz Craig. |
