| | Cannot get aero back I have recently run a free space wipe and when I switched the pc back on, I have lost my aero appearance/taskbar, folders etc etc. The windows background is there but I only have the basic windows classic (white..ish) taskbar and not the transparent aero. Where has it gone? I have tried to restore it from display settings but it wont load. How do I get it back? |

That might put things back as they were. |

That might put things back as they were. You can't unring a bell. Free space is unallocated sectors on your hard drive. These often have file fragements since Windows needs to always fill up a sector when writing to your hard drive. This is a HUGE security risk since the difference between the actual file and the space used to store it (file slack) may contain anything. By "wiping" free space you rewrite unallocated sectors with a pattern, typically zeros and ones. This reduces the chances of somebody snooping on your computer and pulling out stuff, like credit card numbers or other personal data. Why doing a wipe would alter Aero settings makes no sense. It sounds like more than a simple wipe was preformed. Try a restore point. |
