Re: downloaded files disappear...actually never appear

Sorry, but that is simply an incorrect statement on many levels. AVG is
Vista compatible and has been since the Vista beta program. There are no
"scripts" in AVG. And it's my personal experience with AVG on my desktop,
my laptop, and my wife's laptop (all running Vista) that it is one of the
better antivirus solutions for Vista, certainly far better than
Norton/Symantec.

Re: downloaded files disappear...actually never appear

Hi. I am having the exact same problem that Lefmb was having. I have had
Vista for over a year know and have been downloading with no problem. About
2 months ago I started to have this problem with IE and switched to Firefox,
which continued to work just fine. The other day I upgraded to the new
Firefox version and it started happening in Firefox. Tried Safari, same
problem. Just like Leifmb, the files all dowload correctly, just disappear
from designated download folder. I checked the permissions as you suggest in
the security tab of the download folder, but I already had full control of
everything. I did notice a couple of things.

There are 3 user names I am allowed to select in the Folder properties tabl
1 System
2 Joh (JohnDoe/Joh
3 Administrators (JohDoe/Administrators)

Am I setup wrong from the get go

Antoher thing:

When I iniitally choose my download I am given the option of running the
file instead of saving it. If I choose run, I get an error message that says
"can't access c/users/john/AppData/Local/Temp"

Thanks in advance for any advice

Re: downloaded files disappear...actually never appear

The problem is for sure AVG! I uninstalled it and now the downloads seem to work just fine. I got this computer a few days ago, and I installed AVG on it the second day I had this computer. That is when the downloading/disappearing problem began. And now, that I removed AVG, everything works jsut fine. I tried many of the solutions on this forem, but none of them seemed to work.

Hi Daryl,

Might be worth a look under Properties>Security tab of
Quote:
c/users/john/AppData/Local/Temp
To see if you have full control .

Hope it helps

Re: downloaded files disappear...actually never appear

Well, at least for me I can 100% guarantee that it cannot be AVG! How? I just bought this laptop - and AVG was not on it. I downloaded 4 files - all went "poof." So those people saying it has to be AVG - any thought that it might be something else?

Update - turned off UAC as suggested here - that worked for me immediately. Before I did I checked that I had all permissions, etc. etc. all was fine. UAC off fixed my issue.

It might not be a good idea to have UAC turned off permanently.

You could try running this and see if it helps.

Re: downloaded files disappear...actually never appear

Another reason files "disappear" is because when you have a long file name, but are using small windows in which to display your file contents, Vista BRILLIANTLY simply declines to display the file name, rather than truncating it. MAN, I hate Vista. Supposedly you can press F5 to show the file names or, of course, maximize the window. But that doesn't make me hate Vista any less.

Note that AVG is NOT compatible with VISTA.
AVG is programmed for WINDOWS XP.

Meaning, some scripts in AVG may interrupt VISTA making downloads unable to work smoothly.

I'd advise you to go with another ANTIVIRUS program, such as Norton which is compatible with VISTA, but it DOES cost money.
I can confirm that this worked for me, cheers man.
