Re: office 2000 professional

Office 2000 is officially not supported on Windows Vista. That suite was
released back in like March of '99. Its hard to say, but its time to upgrade
to something more modern. If you can't fork out the funds for Office 2007,
at least get Office 2003 and apply the Service Pack 3 patch which improves
compatibility with Vista. Otherwise, download Virtual PC 2007 and install
an appropriate version of Windows on which Office 2000 will work, Windows
2000 or XP will do it.

Unspoken by whom? That's certainly not my notion.

When it comes to software, *no* product is anywhere near perfect in
every way, whether produced by Microsoft or anybody else.

Re: office 2000 professional

Dear Deb;

I tried the copy and paste, it did not work. I con not get word to load and
open. I copied (wab32.dll and wab.32res.dll) in to system32 and checked and
they are in there. It still don't work. Do you have alternate suggestion?

Re: office 2000 professional

Hi Ken
Just read a jan 2008 post from someone saying anything prior to Office 2003
will not work with Vista. Which is it?
thank you.

Re: office 2000 professional

Hi Carey

Think you provided best answer with the link that says, well yes, Office
2000 Pro works w/Vista, and is supported, it is old, and can't be guaranteed
to work 100% well with Vista. This is what I read into it. One should
definitely upgrade to Windows Office 2003 or 2007. We're getting ready to
purchase new computer with either Business or Ultimate and are currently
running Office 2000 Pro on Windows 2000 Pro OS.
thnx

As I said, Office 2000 works. The only problem I've heard of is that
Outlook will not save your password.

My view is different. I think you should upgrade when you need
to--because the old version doesn't work in your environment, or
because the new version has some new feature that you need or crave.

If neither of the above is the case, I recommend saving your money,
and sticking with what works, at least at first. Besides the expense,
there is always a learning curve when you go to something new.

Certainly Microsoft wants you to upgrade; that's how they make their
money. But you should decide for yourself whether you need to.

Re: office 2000 professional

Hi Ken

While I agree with you about Microsoft wanting us all to spend more money
and do upgrades (so of course they're gonna promote new software); with the
uncertaintity of Vista still around, understand SP1 does make it somewhat
more stable, think we just don't want to rock any boats, so to speak with new
computer and new OS, probably Ultimate or Business. Just because 2000 is now
over 7 yrs old, probably good idea to upgrade since boss already has office
2003 on his laptop.
as for me, myself, personally, on my home computers, sticking w/XP Pro.
Running Office 2003 and like it a lot. At least when there are questions
here at work, I can use my home computers/software to work w/later to get the
answers to bring back to work to help with answers.
thnx for your opinion and truthfulness. Appreciate it.
