| | Vista Only Works in Safe Mode Today I was starting up my Custom Vista computer bought of Ebay as usual. When the progress bar with something like Microsoft Corporation under it starts loading the log in screen showed up, it went from left to right as usual, then stopped and froze. I restarted my PC using the button located on the actual computer. Then it prompted me to go into Safe Mode or Normal Mode. I went into normal mode and the same thing happened. I am now in Safe Mode with Networking and dont know how to get to Full Mode without it freezing. Please Help. Derek |

| | Re: Vista Only Works in Safe Mode might be a good reason why it was on ebay. if you got the disks with it, try a repair/upgrade install. mikeyhsd@comcast.net "Derek" <Derek@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:58E909B4-C940-43C1-ADF7-F00841721859@microsoft.com... | | RE: Vista Only Works in Safe Mode Derek, Whenever there's an unexpected shutdown/Blue Screen, the OS restarts and automatically asks you if you want to perform a normal startup or go into Safe Mode. As you probably know, when you go into safe mode, the OS doesn't load all the hardware/software driver on the machine so you can run other stuff like printers, DVD, webcam, etc. Obviously the seller go tired of dealing with the problems and decided to sell it on ebay. Did you get the OS disks with your system? If you didn't, you got ripped off. At least you could have tried performing an OS repair or reinstall. This is not to say that it would have resolved your problem. Vista still has some serious issues and it will take some time before they correct them. I finally got tired of dealing with the problems myself so I bought a new hard drive and reinstalled XP/Pro. The Vista HD is still in my box and I plan to keep it there until MS releases SP1 and the other companies put out better hardware/software drivers for the OS. | | Re: Vista Only Works in Safe Mode Safe Mode boots no normal boot - indicatea a drover problem. Start ny going Start>run>msconfig and clear startup items - if normal boot successful you need to eliminate each startup item Anothr option F8 and select boot log check bootlog.txt root directory one of the last two entries is the culprit. Regarding Vista and XP, the inital release of XP was no different than Vista. Of interset - check (favorite post of mine) posts on the newsgroup "microsoft.public.windowsxp.general" and compare to this newsgroup (Vista.general) - the number of posts will equal or exceed those for Vista - after SP2 and several years of XP. | | Re: Vista Only Works in Safe Mode If I purchase a brand new Windows Vista Business disc, would I be able to still do this fix? Also, what if I bought Ultimate, would this fix still work? And I guess Home Premium doesn't work with this because i've read it doesnt include this feature. |
