People are still searching for the "real vista"

Seems I hit the nail on the head once more when I kept asking the question:
"Where is the REAL Vista that was promised to us with longhorn?".. it seems
that these people are trying to find it.....
Can you imagine? Vista is such a flop that people are willing to go back in
time to find something better.. lol

Vista could have been so much better.. it could have been a work of
    art...and technology of course.

    http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=479

The folks over at Joejoe.org aren't the only ones with "Longhorn" nostalgia.

Enthusiasts over at the AeroXperience.org site also are looking to bring
back Longhorn, a k a, the precursor to the Windows Vista release that
    Microsoft launched in January 2007.

The Joejoe.org Longhorn Reloaded team is looking to ressurect and retrofit a
2004 pre-release version of Windows so that it can be used as an alternative
    to Windows Vista.

The AeroXP "Vista Customization Square"/Retrophase team is looking to bring
the existing Vista Aero interface to a pre-Longhorn-Reset version of
    Windows.

"Incubating in our very forums is a project called 'Retrophase.' Think the
reverse of 'Longhorn Reloaded.' Instead of bringing Windows Vista
capabilities to the rotting Longhorn 4074 platform, the community is
bringing Longhorn goodness to the shiny new Windows Vista platform," blogged
    AeroXP member Rafael Rivera.

The Longhorn Reloaded effort kicked off in earnest last October; Retrophase
started in June 2006. Last week, the Longhorn Reloaded team announced it had
achieved Milestone 1 along its internally-set release timetable.

Wrong! You hit yourself in the head. Give it up already ok? The bull****
you post is nothing but bandwidth sucking trash that nobody cares about
    (except the linux loses)).

See what longhorn was supposed to be in 2003! lol

that's 4 whole years before vista!

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=b9ifQvQCO7Y

Vista was a chain of bad concepts, decisions, design and even worse
    implementation...

It could have been so much better

Many of those concepts have been attempted and/or are still on the drawing
table and have been for a long time. Longhorn was not the inception of
these ideas. MS will get to them when they get to them.

NT: want to run Longhorn for real..? Re: People are still searchingfor the "real vista"

Download Longhorn beta 3 (x32 or x64) and run it as a client.

    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/default.mspx

You can customize it to run just like Vista Ultimate with all the bells
and whistles including sidebar with all the gadgets and aero (of course
    you'll need the correct hardware).
This beta 3 activates and is good till 4/7/2008 and is extremely stable.
I'm running the x64 version and it is very good.

Back in the 50's, the auto manufacturers said we would have flying cars and
all kinds, and yet some are still driving Cavaliers.. ideas don't always
    translate into workable endings..

Re: want to run Longhorn for real..? Re: People are still searching for the "real vista"

    Frank,

    any install issues ?
I downloaded and burned x86 - boot DVD OK. My install started and after
selecting language, etc -I got " DVD driver needed" please insert media
with driver ... in google I see others with same issue and no pointer to
'correct driver'. Do they expect ME to have a Longhorn driver for a NEC
DVD ? It read the DVD OK to get me to those screens, then wants an
updated driver. I can't get past it.

    Anyone else have issues ?

Meanwhile, I'll swap DVD drives between boxes to see if it likes a HP or
    a Samsung DVD drive instead.

    Thanks
    Bobb
