| Guest | Followup to the XP over Vista Issue Hi again folks, Just dropping a little followup to the last post due to to some new items that crept up in doing this on the Presario v6310us.... For one, the DVD/RW on this system [and others in the series] have a problem if you want to install any version of Roxio Easy Media Creator earlier than version 9. If you do so, there will be a constant note stating it needs the latest version of Direct X [9.0c]. Oddly enough, DX-9 [as anyone here will attest] does work with any program, but for some odd reason, this glitch does come up.[I can send anyone, off list a link for EC9, just so you know]. The way to tell if this is or is not working is to after the install, play a DVD or CD. In the case of the DVD, if the image comes through as upside down, then the program will not work [this is the CinePlayer option in EC..and this may also occur if one installs even Power DVD, etc]. As for a CD, if the media player comes up...no matter which company's player and hangs [ie: not responding] the problem in question is rooted in this install as well [I know, odd but some programs create spider-webs or entries upon entries in the registry which can cause a domino effect of issues]. Secondly, the video driver that is listed on the HP website for this model may not work. Yes, it is Nvidia and yes it is mentioned by HP that this is or should be compatible. BUT when one installs it, there is a mention that it is WRITTEN for the 64bit version, even though HP says it will work with VIsta Home 32. If you are confused about this, welcome to the club. Logic would state outright that one should not post a driver like this and say it will work under 32bit if it REALLY was meant for 64bit. The solution to this: Use the NVidia driver that HP has for the 6100 series [6125, etc]. WHY? This is due to the fact that it is a true 32bit driver and installs smoothly. A couple reboots later, the screen is there in living color [a nod to the boys at NBC, but you get the idea] Lastly, if after all of this and you have problems with scrolling [and this is true with Firefox], not only install the above referenced driver in the last paragraph, but also the Synaptics mouse/keyboard driver as well as that for the HP USB Optic Mouse. A couple more reboots and then with few exceptions, the screen will now scroll smoothly in Firefox. If it does not, there are some pages that will not do so under the 2.0.x.x version of Firefox, which apparently is being worked on as this is being written. So it is not something you did. Hope all of the above helps, RheaPDX |
