"Explorer has stopped responding" when accessing hdd

I have read on various different forums about the "Explorer has stopped responding" error message.
Different people having different problems.

I havent read of anyone with the same problem as mine, so thought i'd post it.

Basically i have three hdd's installed.
1 with vista installed.
1 with xp installed.
1 used for data - nothing installed on it.

Whenever i try to access the data drive i get the "explorer has stopped responding" message.
Then it promptly restarts itself.

I can access the drive from a shortcut to a folder contained on the drive. But even then, if i try to go to the root of the drive its the same thing.

Have installed hotfix #931770( which is for the copy process stop responding when copying files from a network), just to see if it would fix the problem but it hasn't.

So..... any body else got any ideas, coz at the mo i cannot acces all of my data drive.
