| | Computer wakes up from sleep and has not internet connection I've finally managed to get vista to sleep properly (in the past it would just wakeup after 2 seconds after setting the computer to go to sleep) but now I have another problem. Upon waking up the computer from sleep the network internet connection is dead and no sites are reachable, I use the repair option for the network card but it just reports back that there is something wrong with my ISP and that I should contact them. A full reboot solves the problem and the computer works fine so it's not a problem with my ISP. I've unchecked the box so that vista doesn't turn off the network card's power on both network cards(which are built onto the mainboard) but it still produces the problem of the network internet being down upon waking from sleep. Is there anything else that I need to do to make this work properly after waking from sleep? Thanks for the assistance. |

| | Re: Computer wakes up from sleep and has not internet connection Do a search on this newsgroup with the keyword "sleep". I just did and came up with over 400 messages. Probably one of those already has your answer. | | Re: Computer wakes up from sleep and has not internet connection I just solved a similar problem on my laptop - I use a wireless connection and it was losing internet after sleep (but not restart). Solution for me was to disable the built-in ethernet card which I don't use. I had a similar problem (many people do, from what I'm reading). This worked for me: Go to Control Panel and open Windows Firewall (put a shortcut on your desk for later use). Click on "Turn Firewall off or on" (top left). Follow the windows and click on "off (not recommended)", then Apply. Wait one or two seconds and click "on" again to turn Firewall on, Apply and OK. You should now be able to connect. Please tell us if this worked for you. |

| | Re: Computer wakes up from sleep and has not internet connection Hi Bob, First off let me say thank you for taking the time to try to help me, it is appreciated. I've tried what you said, but this didn't work. I turned off the firewall after the computer is woken back up but the internet stays dead. However, I did find another way of doing this. I go into device manager and disable the network that the internet cable is plugged into on my computer, and then enable it and sure as rice can be white, the internet is back and running again. So if or until Microsoft can figure out how to perma-fix this, this would be my next best solution to the problem and it's only a couple extra clicks at the moment which is surely faster then actually shutting down the computer and rebooting. Again my appreciation for your efforts and if you hadn't said something about turning off the firewall, I wouldn't have even thought to disable and re enable the network card in device manager. | | Re: Computer wakes up from sleep and has not internet connection Thanks, I tried that today but it didn't solve the problem for me. However after waking up the computer I now go into device manager and disable the active built in ethernet card and then re-enable it and I get internet service again. So now I've just got a shortcut on my desktop to the device manager and use it to disable and enable the built in ethernet card after waking my computer up each time. Thanks for your time. Same here, and I am not certain that Vista is at fault. Go to taskmanager and kill the browser process. Then restart the browser. If you find a better answer, please reply here. |
