| | Change Registered Owner Name I have read all posts pertaining to this issue and all answers that I have found apply to XP. I am Vista Home Premium. My name was entered incorrrectly at set-up by Best Buy. My husband took it back to them and they said I had fixed it. Can anyone help me? After spending $$$ on a new computer, I'd like to at least have my name as Owner. |

Best Buy is most definitely *NOT* a good place to take a computer, even one purchased there, for any kind of service. They seem to hire their "technicians" entirely for their lack of ability. However, to fix the "Registered to" information for WinNT/2K/XP/Vista you can use Start > Run > Regedit.exe to edit: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\RegisteredOwner and: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\RegisteredOrganization How this will affect the name displayed in previously installed applications will vary depending upon each individual program; some read the registered owner information dynamically, while others read it only during installation. -- Bruce Chambers Help us help you: http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. -Benjamin Franklin Many people would rather die than think; in fact, most do. -Bertrand Russell |
