USB hardware re-appears after "safe removal"

After clicking on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon and clicking my
external USB harddrive, I removed my external hard drive.

After rebooting, the vista device manager shows that the external
drive is attached even though nothing is plugged into the USB port.

I have tried uninstalling the driver without success. Thanks for any
suggestions.

RE: USB hardware re-appears after "safe removal"

Under View in the device manager, make sure that "Show hidden devices" is not
checked.
