| | 3DMark06 scores still 5% less under Vista When compared to XP on the exact same machine, my 3DMark06 scores are still at least 5% slower under Vista using the latest nVidia drivers. This is an improvement however as they used to be 15% less using the earlier versions of the drivers. -- And loving it, -Q _________________________________________________ Qu0llSixFour@gmail.com (Replace the "SixFour" with numbers to email me) |

| | RE: 3DMark06 scores still 5% less under Vista Hi Qu0ll, This comment isn't directed at you butu a general comment on programs like 3DMark. Since the early days of performance testing software I have read and seen comments on how the software says that your machine is running at some score and you compare it to other machines running the same programs. Personally I have always believed that all these performance software proves is that their software works and nothing else. As an example you can run say 3DMark and it tells you that you have a real grunt machine but play one of these graphic intensive games and it runs like a dog or at least below par. I know a lot of computer magazines use these performance software packages to rate a program or game, but really it is only a sales pitch towards a particular program/game. In reality there is no such thing as identicle machines in this world and to compare one against the other is bogus. Even if you built 2 machines side by side using the same components and software you will not get the same performance rating it's just a fact of life. Bob, the benchmarks I am comparing are on the EXACT SAME machine that first had XP on it and then replaced with Vista Ultimate. So I think it is reasonable to compare them - the hardware has not changed one iota between swapping OSes. -- And loving it, -Q _________________________________________________ Qu0llSixFour@gmail.com (Replace the "SixFour" with numbers to email me) |

| | Re: 3DMark06 scores still 5% less under Vista How much lower are your XP scores compared to if you ran the benchmark on MS-DOS, Win95, or Win98 (assuming it would install, lets pretend). Besides, 5% is much compared to all the extra services, security, and whatnot in Vista. I bet since XP was first introduced, computers have gotten faster by more than 5%... remember Moore's law? Every 18-24 months computer power increases by 200%.
