Vista - Can't rename Softwaredistribution Folder?

I am having the same problem many others are having, Windows Defender is
asking to download updates and can not. The fix is to go in the safe mode
and change the Softwaredistribution folders name. The problem I am having is
that when I try to rename the folder nothing happens and the cursor just
spins forever. I am never asked to rename the file folder. The directions
came from Microsoft and were followed properly. Am I lacking authority to
request a name change. I am the only user and I have admin priveleges and
only recently have had this problem. Home Premium Vista, 2 gig ram on HP
Laptop. Please help if you can. Thanks

Hello Harry,

To rename the folder you have to stop the Automatic update service. Also
possible in normal mode.

Problem fixed. Had to disable auto updates to change the name and once
completed was able to update once again.
