Desktop.ini files showing on the desktop

I have turned on Show hidden files and folders and two icons for "desktop
..ini" are now showing on the desktop. One comes from User\Public\Desktop,
the other is User\<user profile>\Desktop. Windows XP always managed to keep
them hidden.

Any ideas how to hide them whilst keeping other hidden files and folder
visible?

Turn on the sidebar and hide them under a gadget ;-)

You KNOW why they are now showing. Undo what you did to make them visible.

Re: Desktop.ini files showing on the desktop

Can't be done. If you want hidden and system files shown, ALL hidden and
system files will be shown including these two.

No. With the hidden files it's either all or none.

Windows Vista™ Ultimate

you can allways delete them since they do nothing except give explorer one tiny picture in a user folder where you wouldnt care about.

You beat me to it.
I've been deleting them for months and haven't had to restore one yet.

Re: Desktop.ini files showing on the desktop

So to sum up all people here said, you probably won't see the .ini if you
disable viewing of system files. If you set Windoze to show both system and
hidden files - you will see the .ini.

Why not just elect for the recommended setting to hide system files?
You can always temporarily expose them if you need to.

Try working with Vista instead of against it.
