Vista - Sony's Vista Business Express Upgrade installed OK, but I have some questions

Dear friends:

I have just installed Sony's Vaio Vista Business Express Upgrade
without any problem, but I have some questions.

The whole process took about 5 hours in my VGN-UX280P. Incompatible
drivers and applications where automatically uninstalled first, then
the Operating System was upgraded, and then all the Vista compatible
drivers and applications where installed, practically without any
personal intervention, excepting for many Eula's acceptance. Only
Acrobat Reader 8.0 failed to install, due to the UAC.

Please note that the DVD that Sony and Microsoft gave to their
customers when they bought their PC after November First 2006, as it
was my case, only accepted an upgrade installation, not a clean
install.

So, my experience was very good, but I have some questions.

1) I have a third party Virus Checker and spyware Checker
("SpySweeper"), should I totally disable Microsoft's "Virus Defender",
or at least partially? Is there any advantage to have both of them
active simultaneously?

2) I didn't uninstalled Microsoft's ActiveSync before the
upgrade, and I learnt after that its incompatibility with Vista. But
if I go to the Software Uninstall Control Panel Applet (it has a
different name under Vista), it shows Microsoft ActiveSync, but
without any button to uninstall it. And if I try to do the standard
trick in this situation, to install it again I order to uninstall it
immediately after that, Windows Installer refuses to install it
because of Vista's incompatibility. What can I do?

3) In Vista's Boot Manager appears the possibility to boot to the
"Old Version of the Operating System". Does it mean that the upgrade
process kept the old Windows XP installation? How can I delete it? I
assume that I will not have any interest to use and to maintain it,
specially if it cost me five or more Gigabytes of hard disk space.

What happens when you click on the Old Versions option? Does it give the XP
boot loader menu and can you start XP? If not use something like EasyBCD or
VistaBootPro to remove the entry.

> You do not have to disable the "Windows Defender", it's an anti-spyware,

>You probably will have to do it manually, do you have any understanding in
>Windows registry? If you are, you can uninstall it manually.

Dear Rock, regarding your comment to my third question below, it boots
to the XP Recovery Console, that it was installed in the XP boot
manager of the previous XP Professional installation, before the Vista
Upgrade. Then, maybe it is OK to have it.

Does a Vista Recovery Console exist, and how to install it?

Interesting that you can boot still into the XP recovery console, but XP
isn't installed. Can you actually get into the recovery console? It
prompts for the number of the Windows installation and the password for
built in Administrator account in XP. Where are the recovery console files?
Normally they reside in a hidden folder \cmdcons in the root of the system
volume. There is no point in having the recovery console accessible w/o an
XP installation.

No there is no Vista recovery console. The recovery console was replaced by
the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) accessible from booting the Vista
DVD.
