black squares over some icons (folders) in Windows Explorer & desk

After Remoting to my Vista Business PC, I got on it locally and the whole
desktop was black. I had to reboot and once I signed in, I know have black
boxes showing where the folder icon should be plus have certain desktop icons
that have a black box on them. It is very annoying. Any help with
shellconcache, etc for Vista would be appreciated.
Thank you,
