    vista and vaio

I have a sony viao sz220 that came with windows xp home. I upgraded to
xp pro and it worked perfectly. I decided to upgrade to vista and chose
vista business. I did a clean install but some of the features that make
a vaio a vaio dont work (built in camera, s buttons, function buttons)
    dont work.
I contacted Sony about this and they said that my notebook is
compatible only with vista home basic.
    I need help:
    1. Is what Sony say is true?
    2. If it is true and the features of my vaio will only work on home
basic, is it possible to downgrade or do I have to do a clean install?
    3. If it is not true, what can I do?
I like vista business and would hate to downgrade. Please help.
Thanks to all for your help.

    Re: vista and vaio

they mean probably that some of the features of vista business like glass
    aero are not available

do you have the 3d interface? This means that you don't have to degrade to a
    lesser vista,
only that the aero 3d will not work... also they mean that:

Also Sony does not support anything else as a company than vista basic and
    home premium

You should go to the vaio site find your model, and search for vista
    drivers..

when you download them and install them.. the other features will work.

I was on a Sony site today and downloaded vista drivers for a laptop...

Vista Business is just what it says. There is no Multimedia support.
You cannot "downgrade" but you can upgrade to Vista Ultimate. However, I
would check the Vista Ultimate hardware requirements first.

    Re: vista and vaio

What I meant is that some of the vaio features, built-in camera,
specialbuttons don't work. I've downloaded all the drivers and
installed them the way sony says but I can't make them work properly.
SOny says that my laptop is compatible only with vista home basic, are
there any special software architecture differences between home and
vista that would make the drivers useless?
    Thanks for all your responses.

    Re: vista and vaio

Another poor devil trying to use a Sony Vaio computer and re-installing
windows XP in lieu of Vista. He's fighting a dead horse, as the basic
'BIOS' is keyed to Windows Vista only! Sony ought to be shot for this sort
    of action. ugh..

There is no "different architecture" for different editions of Vista -
all Windows Vista drivers will work on ANY edition.
