PLEASE HELP: What is the correct date/time on this image???

Hi,

I have an image file that shows 12:57 PM on Windows XP as the "Date
Picture Taken", but on Windows Vista it shows at 1:57 PM. I would
really like the experts here to tell me which time shows up on their
systems and possibly an explanation for this discrepancy.

The picture: http://www.perceptivei.com/IMGP1865.JPG (PLEASE DOWNLOAD
AND CHECK)
Time on XP: http://www.perceptivei.com/xp_time.jpg
Time on VISTA: http://www.perceptivei.com/vista_time.jpg

Thanks!

I very much doubt that anyone in their right mind will download anything
from a stranger. This is no slur on your honor; it's just being
sensible. Besides, downloading a file will tell you (and the downloader)
nothing at all. One of your computers is set to a different time zone or
is otherwise off an hour.

No, this is just a jpg image and it will open in internet explorer. I
am talking about looking at the file meta data. The meta data should
not change across different computers...

Date = 2007-01-31

Hour = 12:57:15

Taken by a Pentax Optio S40

no flash used...

I'm using KDE running on Gnu/Linux.

By the way, some images like jpgs can execute malicious code when opened
with some viewers under windows, i don't know if this problem has allready
been banned... but maybe a reason why some people don't wanna download it.
It's the legacy of windows users: live under constant fear...

Re: PLEASE HELP: What is the correct date/time on this image???

Check your Time Zone and Time on both and see if it matches. Time Zone is probably your culprit

Re: PLEASE HELP: What is the correct date/time on this image???

That is really wierd - same thing happens to me with your image, but not
with any taken with my cameras.

I find nothing in the image's information (EXIF data) that would indicate
time zone or other offset.

Just another bit of Vista wierdness?

I did, and it shows BOTH dates! If you look at the image itself Photo
Galley shows 12:57. However if you click on properties and use Windows
Explorer it shows 1:57.

Hey, it's Microsoft software, what else would you expect? The right
hand never knows what the left hand is doing.

Looking at it in Photoshop it shows 12:57 as the time.

I agree that there's a hiccup here, but just why is this hour difference
a problem? Most users work with just one operating system on their
computers.
