| | Colors are off in Windows Photo Gallery If I open a photo in Windows Photo Gallery, the background of the window has a light green tint and the photos are dark and off color. If I open the same photo file in MS Office Picture Manager, the picture looks the way I Expect it to look. I there a way to adjust the basic color settings of Windows Photo Gallery to get a basic white background and my pictures the way I think they should be? TIA, Amir |

| | Re: Colors are off in Windows Photo Gallery Hi Amir, See if the following note helps, posted earlier by Redbeaver: <quote> First off, there r 2 solutions i discovered...one is if u have Photoshop installed, the other if you don't. If you do have, in Control Panel, there's an Adobe Gamma tool. Run it by step-by-step wizard (or by Control Panel if u know what u'r doing) and create ur own Profile. Name it anything, i name mine Vista-1 just so its easier to see. It will create an ICM profile immediately installed in Window's system32-spool-color folder (given u dont change the saving location. better yet, dont even try.). Done? Back in Vista's control panel, open the Colour Management tool. In there u'll see the default ICC profile, mine named Samsung - Natural Color Pro 1.0 ICM, file name SM205BW.icm since my monitor is a Samsung 205BW. Click on Add.., and if you scroll down, u'll see ur profile; again, mine said Vista-1. U might need to click on Browse.. if u dont see yours becoz u saved it somewhere else... [Now, this part i'm not sure whether u need to do it, but i did it anyway.... Click on the Profiles button on the right bottom corner and click on Combine My Settings with System Defaults. then...] Click OK, and click on Vista-1 and click on Set as Default Profile. Click Close. Now try opening a picture in WPG Ooops, almost forgot, for people who doesnt have Photoshop, u can google any free ICC profile or go to: http://www.adobe.com/digitalimag/adobergb.html Download these free ICC, and install some..or..well... i tried installing all of them anyway... Just extract them, then right click and select Install... Now go to Vista Control Panel, open Color Management, and click on Add... Scroll down and all of the installed ICC should be there. Pick one and set it default. [Again, u could click on Profiles and select Combine My Profile... but im not sure about this.] Click Close and you're good to go. Of course if it still shows the wrong colour just pick a different ICC and try it. First ICC i tried is the Adobe1998 one and it seems to be working fine... Of course im no expert and if any of u experts sees the better ICC in there (there r like 10~15 of them in the ZIP), by all means correct me. THat's all. | Vista Ultimate 64 | Re: Colors are off in Windows Photo Gallery Hello Amir , I have the same issue. Photos look terrible when I open them in Windows Photo Gallery. If I then slideshow the offending pictures in Windows Photo Gallery they look just right, as expected. I am not sure what is going on. For the record I have a Dell 2407 monitor and a 8800 GTS Graphics card. Pictures look great in every other app: CS2, Nero photosnap viewer, and IrfanView. |

| | Re: Colors are off in Windows Photo Gallery You might try just deleting the color profile. I did that and my wierd color problems went away. My profiles dialg is just blank. Seems to work just fine now. | Vista Ultimate 64 | Re: Colors are off in Windows Photo Gallery I managed to fix my issue, here's how I did it. I added the AdobeRGB1998.icc colour profile and used it as the default monitor profile. To do this 1. Control Panel ---> Color Management 2. Click on the All Profiles Tab click Add 3. Browse to the folder that contains the color profile called AdobeRGB1998.icc and add it 4. On the devices tab select your monitor from the top drop down then click Add 5. In the list that appears there now should be the AdobeRGB1998.icc profile 6. Add this profile 7. This new profile should now appear in the list. Click on the profile and click Set As Default Profile, click close. I don't think I rebooted, but it would not hurt to do so 8. Colors now look good If you do not have the profile on your machine you can download it from here: http://www.antiquetimber.co.uk/AdobeRGB1998.icc All the best, Mick |
