What really is the difference between Vista Home Premium and Vista Ultimate, after all? Is it really not the difference between XP Home and XP Professional, with Aero tossed in?. No one at this time knows how much any edition of Vista will cost, since Microsoft has not yet published a pricing structure for Vista. But if past prices for Microsoft OEM products are any indication, the OEM editions will be ~$100 - ~$150 less than the Retail editions, depending on market conditions, and how far Microsoft is willing to go to get Vista distributed to the world. == Donald L McDaniel Please reply to the original thread. =========================================================== |

| | Re: Windows Vista OEM prices. With all due respect to Nelson24, I don't think you will buy those editions the same way you buy XP OEM editions. My understanding is that you will purchase a new product key from MS online that will unlock the additional features and capabilities for moving from Home Basic to Home Premium or Ultimate. It would be like being able to upgrade from XP Home to XP Pro without having to buy an XP Pro cd. That implies that the extra bits will already be on your computer and just need to be unlocked. I believe that is the case. | | Re: Windows Vista OEM prices. That is the case, it's not quite as simple as a new product key (ie: you won't be able to just enter a pirated key and unlock Vista Ultimate) but you will be able to upgrade online without downloading the locked parts since they are already there "Colin Barnhorst" <colinbarharst(remove)@msn.com> wrote in message news:uLBhIIJlGHA.1640@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > With all due respect to Nelson24, I don't think you will buy those > editions the same way you buy XP OEM editions. > > My understanding is that you will purchase a new product key from MS > online that will unlock the additional features and capabilities for > moving from Home Basic to Home Premium or Ultimate. > > It would be like being able to upgrade from XP Home to XP Pro without > having to buy an XP Pro cd. | | Re: Windows Vista OEM prices. Yes, I believe you will be able to unlock the DVD and then install the new stuff(as opposed to having it sitting on your computer unuseable) BUT, are they going to have that feature available for OEM versions? Many OEM versions nowadays are keyed to the machines(Dell, etc) "Bones" <idonthaveone@blah.com> wrote in message news:e3VLuSJlGHA.4872@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > That is the case, it's not quite as simple as a new product key (ie: you > won't be able to just enter a pirated key and unlock Vista Ultimate) but > you will be able to upgrade online without downloading the locked parts > since they are already there > > "Colin Barnhorst" <colinbarharst(remove)@msn.com> wrote in message > news:uLBhIIJlGHA.1640@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... >> With all due respect to Nelson24, I don't think you will buy those >> editions the same way you buy XP OEM editions. >> >> My understanding is that you will purchase a new product key from MS >> online that will unlock the additional features and capabilities for >> moving from Home Basic to Home Premium or Ultimate. >> >> It would be like being able to upgrade from XP Home to XP Pro without >> having to buy an XP Pro cd.
