| | Complete PC Backup Problem Here's my problem: I bought my laptop with Vista Home Premium, then I upgraded to Vista Ultimate using the Windows Anytime Upgrade Disk (after shelling out $159 for a license key). I wanted Vista Ultimate so I could use the "Windows Complete PC Backup" feature which is supposed to make a complete image of the system disk. I tried to do this and everything seemed OK ... I used an external USB HDD for the backup and Vista took just 20 minutes to backup my 43 gigs of files to the backup drive. When I went to look in the "WindowsImageBackup" folder on the USB drive it said the folder was empty!!! But when I looked at the amount of free space remaining on the drive it was approx. 20 gigs less than before I did the backup! Why do I not see anything when I look in the WindowsImageBackup folder??? Any help is much appreciated |

If you went to Ultimate only for the disk imaging feature, you could have bought Acronis & saved money....but the complete backup feature does the job, I have never had a problem with it. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.7 (MingW32) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFGbw4/qDp2fu862vwRAmoSAJ4lBsuhqByuoHYovQBVxbD9WZaFCACfZhwO 4eWSeS/7QjnzYLhtehBryi8= =v07a -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

| | Re: Complete PC Backup Problem Thanks very much for your reply. I also got Ultimate for BitDefender encryption, but then found out I needed a TPM chip which my laptop (Toshiba U205-S5067) does not have! So yes, I did waste a lot of $$$ ;-( "Richard" wrote: > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- > Hash: SHA1 > > CarlC wrote: > > Here's my problem: I bought my laptop with Vista Home Premium, then I > > upgraded to Vista Ultimate using the Windows Anytime Upgrade Disk (after > > shelling out $159 for a license key). You don't necessarily need a TPM for Bitlocker. As long as the machine can access a usb key at boot, you can authenticate by inserting a usb key for Bitlocker. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.7 (MingW32) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFGbxn0qDp2fu862vwRAqh0AJsG0DENfNbEb4K+RQ7QCl/3iNv7ygCdE0fJ DKQwGkVW3Mk4R3vc7igVFew= =DPcw -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

No problem, take a look at http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tec...r/default.aspx about halfway down the page see "Using BitLocker without a TPM". Remember to download the Ultimate extra which allows you to partition your drive for Bitlocker without loss of data. IMO you should check to see you can read usb keys at boot in your BIOS, if you can, then use the Bitlocker driver preperation tool to partition the disk. You can then go through the Bitlocker setup :-) -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.7 (MingW32) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFGbyoKqDp2fu862vwRAr88AJ9mvZEmvjPHM/BBLf9aO5CrjRuoSACgid2g RP8QFsu9Jvofi5UjWvfgqzE= =ou0L -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |
