Vista's Microsoft Windows Update crashes

Dear friends:

Vista's Microsoft Windows Update crashes. Today, my Vista Business
computer started to download and install all the yesterday supplied
patches from Microsoft, and it crashed every time that it tried to
install any of the just supplied security patches. After the installer
crash, I didn't need to reboot to continue working with the PC, but I
needed to reboot to continue with the patches download/install
process.

I could take note of the following information related to the crashes:

APPCRASH
Application: TrustedInstaller.exe
Module: WCP.DLL

Curiously, when I originally installed Vista on my PC, I updated it
going manually to the Ms Windows Update WEB page, without any problem.
But the automated process resulted a disaster. Could be a solution to
disable the automatic process, and to go manually to the Ms Windows
Update WEB page once every Friday, when the Microsoft server's load
should have declined?

I didn't have any problem, however, with my "old" WinXP PCs.

Any hint

Thanks

RE: Vista's Microsoft Windows Update crashes

Hi Juan,

I have just downloaded the updates and I run Business too. What version are
you running ( 32 or 64bit ) and what is the configuration of your machine ?

Re: Vista's Microsoft Windows Update crashes

Hi Bob, it is a 32 bit machine. The only difference with the
configuration I have now and the one I had when I updated my original
Vista installation is that today, I have the UAC on, and when I
updated my original Vista installation, I had it off.

Do you know what WCP.DLL does?

Re: Vista's Microsoft Windows Update crashes

Hi Juan,

Hmmm I have the 64 bit version and I had UAC on and everything went okay.
I have just checked what the updates were and except for the Outlook Express
update for 64 bit Vista ( didn't know OE was in Vista ) everything else looks
fine..
Maybe there are different updates for the 32bit version.
I don't know what WCP.DLL does but I'm sure someone will tell us.
What sort of CPU , Memory etc do you have on your computer ?
