My HP printer keeps disappearing...

My HP OfficeJet 5600 All-in-One has been working fine for months on my Dell
Dimension with Vista Home Premium. Yesterday, all of a sudden it stopped.
The HP no longer displays under Printers, just "Microsoft Office Document
Image Writer" and "Microsoft XPS Document Writer".

My HP is connected via a USB hub. If I reboot a couple of times I'll finally
get the message "Installing Device Driver Software", then "Your Devices are
Ready to Use. Your Device Driver Software Installed Successfully". I also
get this result when I use Control Panel/Add Hardware. However the printer
will eventually "disappear" again and I have to go through the same process-
sometime two or three times a day.

This is driving me crazy. Can someone tell me why my computer keeps losing
my printer and how I can make it stop.

Thanks.

silas

Re: My HP printer keeps disappearing...

What happens if you remove the hub and directly connect the printer?

I am having this same problem. I thought it was isolated to just my
OfficeJet, but now I have an even more serious problem. All my Vista
machines are no longer able to print to local printers. The printer
is there, but when trying to print a page i get a "Failed to print"
and a very un-useful troubleshooter which gives me suggestions like
(my printer is out of paper, or there is a paper jam) I just want a
printer to print. I've restarted the printer spooler with no luck.
Does anybody know a fix for Vista's printer problems?

I am frustrated by the same thing ... I see per the discussion room this is
not isolated ... has anyone found a solution to printers dissappearing
everytime Vista downloads upgrades?
