Stripped Vista

Is it true vista is a cut off version of the OS? In two years wll there be a
better and more complete version? does this mean if i buy vista now in two
years i'll have to buy it again?

Re: Stripped Vista

Hi,

No. There are several different versions that offer different features, but
there is no devious plan to issue a new, more complete version of Vista in
two years. The next OS is more like 5+ years out.

Re: Stripped Vista

Yes you are totally correct. many of the innovations that were planned and
worked on on longhorn were removed or partially implemented in Vista.
Longhorn is the development name for vista. At one point they stopped
everything because it was getting too complex, and they started working on a
reduced version that is indeed what we have now as vista.. its a sad story
lots of time was wasted, lots of promises broken... and lots of hype
deflated.

They will probably add these back to the next version of windows that will
be released around 2010...

in that case you will be able to pay for an upgrade version for a reduced
price.

SP1 for Vista should be released at the end of this year or early next year,
to coincide with the release of the Server version which will be at the SP1
level. Thereafter both versions will keep pace with service packs. If you
want to call the release of a service pack as meaning a better and more
complete version of Vista, then I guess what you say is true.

If you look at the PDC 2003 Longhorn videos you realize that many features
were stripped out. I venture this happened because of the security re-write
when Microsoft did a massive code review over security concerns.

What will make it into the upcoming release is anybody's guess, even
Microsoft's. But if Microsoft does as Microsoft's indicated, the next new
version beyond Server 2008 will be within 2 to 3 years i.e. 2009-2010.

You will not *have* to upgrade when the new version comes out .. but it will
be the 'current' version of the time, just as Vista is today so you will
probably want to.

Quite frankly, IMO, I think the cycle should be five years .. five years
between versions not including minor modernizations that can come through
service packs. Otherwise one gets a sort of 'upgrade' fatigue.

You forgot that we were supposed to have voice commands to control the heat,
AC and door locks in our homes, and flying cars, too.

I hope those are fresh batteries in that smoke detector.

Re: Stripped Vista

All that is possible... I remember computers in the 80s that could do that..

But the problem is not the computer or the software... it is the external
electronics that must be installed in the house that is the problem.. for
example if you want it to open or lock the door you need either a motor to
turn something to lock it, or an electromagnet to move something.

Flying cars already exist, but if they have vista installed onboard they
will crash. Literally.
http://travel.howstuffworks.com/flying-car.htm

These are crude machines though that still use air to lift. Antigravity is a
technology that exists, however it will take a long time until it will get
into mainstream applications. Also teleportation has been proven as a
reality, first with particles and now with atoms. I would not be surprised
to see teleportation of large objects in 50 years.

As for your use of a crystal ball to see the future, its a really outdated
way. You don't need that. Anyone can see glimpses of the future using only
his brain,
if trained to do it. Time and space are only an illusion, it is an illusion
of 3 dimension plus one of time that has expanded.

In fact there is no space or no time and everything you know as matter, and
everything that has happened in the past or will happen in the future is
really
unified in higher dimensions.

My brain does not heat up, in fact human brains are the most efficient
calculating machines known to man.. the total *possible combination* of the
neuron dendrites is far-far greater than all the atoms in all the known
universe. A brain packs the most computing power,
in a small space and works on very little energy only a few watts.

That is.. IF your brain works....

Re: Stripped Vista

Hi Tiberius,

Have you heard of MS Home Server? It will be out later this year, and yes,
hardware manufactures will be making all that external electronics that must
be installed in the house for it. It will also allow you to control your
home
over the web. Be very scared. :-)
