| | Symantec and Vista One of my customers purchased and attempted to install a version of Symantec Insternet security that was not compatable with vista. It does not run properly and gives the error message "This software has known campatability issues". There aren't any online fixes for it. He purchased a copy of Symantec that is compatable, but when you try to uninstall the previous version, a window pops up on the screen and says that it has suffered a serious error during installation and then it doesn't allow it to be uninstalled. HOW DO I UNINSTALL THIS SOFTWARE?? please respond...... |

| | Re: Symantec and Vista > One of my customers purchased and attempted to install a version of Symantec > Internet security that was not compatible with vista So you are selling or repairing computers or something to that effect from your statement above. What I do not understand is why then you do not know how to fix that issue. First of all you go to the Symantec site and find the removal tool that is available to download to remove that particular install of NIS. Secondly advise your customer that Norton does not play very nice with Vista or any other version of Windows. Also to just to let you know that MacAfee is just as bad. These two security clients do not play very nicely with Vista. It is best to install something that works just as good if not better. These would be Avast,AVG,Karpensky and etc. These not just work great but they are also cost effective by being free. Your Customer will appreciate this input from you. | | Re: Symantec and Vista This customer was a walk in client. We generally recommend Kaspersky. Truthfully we haven't seen too many vista customers. The symantec software removal tool did not work in this case, hence why I posted the question in the community forum. Thank you for your post though. It seems Symantec is making their customers too difficult life and pushing their customers to their competitors. HOW DO I UNINSTALL THIS SOFTWARE?? please respond...... 1) Go to Symantec's web site and look for the uninstaller for the version he has. It works and gets rid of it all very well. 2) Tell the customer never to install any Symantec product. Even AVG free edition works better than NAV. |

| | Re: Symantec and Vista HI Midwest, I had a similar problem with Nero where the removal too didn't work either. It just so happened that I was going to change from dual boot to single boot and the only way I could get rid of the previous version was to do a clean install. As far as running any Norton product, they lost the plot years ago and now is more trouble than it is worth. I use Avast and I find it to be great just as AVG is.
