Windows Vista Home Premium update

I did a update on June 13 and my screen does not come back on when I use the
mouse after a long absence from using the computer. I restored to a May
restore point and hope all works well. I think there was a new driver for
the HP W22 display that is causing the problems. Any insight?

The only things I ever update when using WU, are "critical" updates
and other updates related to Microsoft products, like Office.

If I want to update something other than a Microsoft product, like
a video driver, I get the update from the vendor's website. Things
just seem to work better that way. It's not a guarantee, but it has
been my experience you'll have less chance of some conflict.
