Vista - What a nightmare

Having used Windows systems going back to 3.0, I finally thought Microsoft
got it right with Windows XP. Now that I have purchased a computer loaded
with Vista, the above title is all I can say about this one!

God almighty, to have to confirm 6 dialogue boxes just to delete a folder on
my hard drive!
To have to sit and watch Defender messages warning me of programs that
defender thinks should not load up when windows starts, without any apparent
way of removing that program from the system, then finally giving in and
LETTING windows start it, only to find that it is an update for Defender and
THEN to get startup messages stating that Defender cannot update itself!
Then finding that if I choose to keep my email password off my system in the
Mail program, I must type in my entire email address AND password if I want
my email.

Is this a joke? Was this system written by Apple to get Windows users to
switch over for once and for all?

OK, HOW do I remove this Defender thing? It reminds me of Norton Security
which is usually the very first thing I remove from any computer system I
purchase.

Will you please stop whining, no one cares. I too have used the Windows O/S
starting back to 3.0 and DOS.

I have no problems using Vista myself. It's a good O/S.

Personally, I'm not recommending this, but to answer your question...

Control Panel > Programs > Windows Defender > Tools > Options

this is only the beginning of your nightmares.... the more you use it 2
dreadful things will happen:

1) You will discover more and more problems and stupid things about vista
that will aggravate you and disgust you

2) and what is worse, you will start getting used to this low quality trash
that they heaved out in alpha state.

As you learn the ins and outs of Vista, which is different from XP,
you'll be able to totally control these little nagging "things" that are
currently bothering you.

If you really had Vista, you'd learn how to totally control it.
Obviously either you don't have Vista, or else you're completely lost in
using it. Some people (you?) are lost in using Vista.

Only someone who knows absolutely nothing about computers or how to use
them would make such a stupid statement.

I appreciate your response but when I go there all I see are options to
remove the alerts. Is it possible to uninstall Defender altogether, or is it
a manadatory part of Vista?

I've had Vista on my new laptop for 3 months now; I'm presently
re-installing a dual boot of XP and openSUSE...

Vista has several nice new features; it looks pretty; user wise it is
dreadful - really awful... I cannot believe that millions of dollars
were spent on development + testing to produce this... what were they
thinking?

Oh I just bought my Mum a new laptop - It's an Apple Mac (she knows nowt
about PCs and loves the Mac).
