| | Error message when clicking on link I am running Vista Ultimate and have an annoying issue which I wondered whether any one else has experienced. When I click on an internet link for instance in an email, I get an error box that says: "Windows cannot find 'http://xyz.com'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. This occurs every time I click on a link. However, immediately after this error message displays, the correct page comes up in my browser, exactly as if no error occurred. This has become quite annoying, even though it doesn't prevent me from browsing from a link. I am using Firefox as my default browser. Any ideas? |

| | RE: Error message when clicking on link I have the same problem in firefox 2.004 when opening a link in email for example. If someone can come up with a solution, it would be great. | | RE: Error message when clicking on link I found the answer to my own question on the Mozilla website. What it involves is a manual edit of the registry. It worked for me with no problems. No reboot is needed after editing. ONE NOTE: If you update your Firefox after these changes, you will most likely have to repeat this procedure....according to what I found. Remember, before editing the registry, make a backup FIRST. Here's the changes needed: 1. Go to "Start>Run" then type regedit and click OK 2. Navigate to "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\HTTP\shell\open\ddeexec" 3. Delete the "ddeexec" registry key. (delete the WHOLE key, not just the data) 4. Repeat for "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\HTTPS\shell\open\ddeexec" 5. Repeat for "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FirefoxURL\shell\open\ddeexec" 6. Repeat for "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FirefoxHTML\shell\open\ddeexec" Here's a link to the actual Mozilla Firefox instructions. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Windows_er...-_Firefox.html I am a happy "camper" once again....
