| | Turn Off Magnifier I've used the internalsearch function & got a hit for Turn Off Magnifier. It linked me to magnifier which only allows me to turn it on! I've searched the discussion groups & found some suggestions, but I couldn't make them work. I boot up, the magnifier turns on, I manually turn it off & reboot; there it is again. I went to see what programs run on startup & it's not there. Could someone please please walk me through the process so that it doesn't automatically turn on.? Thanks |

| | Re: Turn Off Magnifier Well, since you've requested an answer that works. My ego has encouraged me to post =). His answer ease of access center is correct but a bit more complicated than that. First, you have to use your start search or control panel and open the easy of access center. I prefer using my start search and searching for access. Once you have it open, you need to go through the options, turn off magnifer, on screen keyboard, etc and whatever else may be added. Now, if you restart your computer. It'll pop back up and you'll be cursing at me. So instead, let's click on 'Change administrative options' after we've changed all our settings the way we want it to be 'when we logon'. Note in here there's a checkmark box that reads 'Apply All Settings to Logon Desktop'. Checkmark that. Hit Save. Ta da, problem solved. Restart and your done. No more annoynig magnifier, on screen keyboards or whatever else you had turned on. So long as you adjust your settings so its all off and then use the 'Chagne administrative options' to make your current settings apply to the logon desktop. |

| | Re: Turn Off Magnifier I have had the same problem. It seems when my cursor touches the left side of the screen the magnfier comes on and you can't turn it off until you restart the computer. I followed the suggestion to go to the control panel for Ease of Access and clicked on Optimize the Display. However, the magnifier is unchecked. This is a continuing nuisance and happens a lot. Is there a way to turn of the Ease of Access capability? I looked in the Windows options list but saw no listing for turning off individual capabilites such as this. -- Path Rider "GGeek" wrote: Quote: > > Go to *Control Panel* and look *below* the *Ease Of Access icon* Select > *Optimize Visiual Display* a screen called Make Compter Easier to see > will come up. > *Scroll down to the magnifier* and *uncheck* the magnifier selection > Then *click on the Apply* button > > > -- > GGeek > |

| | Re: Turn Off Magnifier Hi, Path Rider. A couple of weeks ago, I had practically the same problem, except that the Magnifier stayed on all the time; touching the side of the screen did not toggle it own. After a frustrating day, I posted a plea for help in the microsoft.public.windowsxp.accessibility newsgroup and quickly got a response from a poster named Byte: Quote: > You do not get a small window with an Exit button? Once activated > check the Taskbar for the Magnifier and rightclick and click Close. Quote: > NOW I see that on the Taskbar! Where was it this morning? I looked all different from WinXP. Quote: > But I found the answer,,, finally, with help from another MVP. Back on > the checkbox, unchecked it and Applied it. It seems you've already tried that, though, so I'm not sure what else to suggest. This was my first visit to the accessibility newsgroup, but they quickly solved my problem. Perhaps a visit there would be your best hope. RC -- R. C. | | Re: Turn Off Magnifier I also believed that not being able to turn off the magnifier was also my problem. I had the same things happen as stated in the previous posting. My magnifier was not checked on. So of course I was not able to turn it off. The problem turned out to be the resolution not the magnifier. Go to "control Panel" to "Appearance and Personalization" to "adjust screen resolution" If this is causing your problem the resolution will be on LOW. Use the slide scale to HIGH and click on apply. You will barely see the apply button. It will be on the lower right hand corner of the window.
