Vista - Vista works great!

Ok! It's a new, week old, HP, top of their line notebook, with every option,
2 hard drives, 384 m video, etc. I put 90G's of stuff including schedulers
from 1999, little programs that aren't ready for Vista, all pictures loaded
wirelessly from XP laptops and desktops, etc on it.

Rebooted after -- ** EACH **-- program install. Yas, its slow, but I will
dump ALL Norton stuff next week for non Norton or McAfee stuff to speed it
up. Great OS so far. Only one little problem. When I bought it direct from
HP, I also got a HP A616 little toy photo printer along with a real full
size printer. The A616 little photo printer won't work at all with VISTA,
but does perfectly with another new HP notebook I got from uBid / direct
from HP; that has Windows XP Media Center 2005. It's on my network so no
problem, it just can't work directly hooked to the Vista notebook. No biggie
for me.

I do believe all this gripe stuff we see is because most are trying to
upgrade poor systems, or they load more than one progran at a time before
rebooting.

Well, you shouldn't need to reboot for most app installs these days unless
instructed to.

Or, they have old and insufficient hardware and know such. They insist that
Vista should run on their computer (Celeron 1.7 gig with no L2 cache). They
come here and when they are told that their system is not sufficient for
Vista, they get an attitude.

As I have stated earlier, the real problem they are sold these computers
from Dell and HP and told they can only use Vista. THIS is destroying the
reputation of the OS among the public. Of course the Mac adverts with the
comic Duo have capitalized on this...we will see what happens when the final
Leopard roars.

Going through direct experience with people with "so called" top of the line
Pc with Vista installed and it's hell for lot's of people.
HP machines have the most problems while Acer seem to handle it all a lot
better.

I'm a Mac (G5 Quad) and Windows user and find that Mac is just the
best....Microsoft still has a lot to learn on making things User Easy.

You put on 90 G's worth of stuff, oh wow, I'm impressed. I put almost
2 TB's worth of stuff, over a million files so I call you and raise
the bet, since I did a install in place.

Yep, aside from annoying BUILD-In stupidity like UAC, and never fixed
Windows Explorer, Media Player bugs and other things Microsoft never
really fixes and were broke already in XP, Vista works fine for me too
(aside from it being as slow as a snail in file handling) in spite of
being having plenty of legacy software vintage Windows 3.1 era.

The POINT that zooms over the heads of all the fanboys is Vista does
NOT work for a lot of people regardless of hardware being "certified
for Vista" and software claimed to be Vista "ready" because deep down
in the rat hole of some 50 million lines of code Vista remains buggy
as hell and some issues only show up SOMETIME for SOME people under
SOME situations using a certain combination of hardware and software.
You would think fellow users would have some sympathy. Not here, the
boneheads crew rather gloat, snort and act like little kids having
endless temper tantrums while they of course engage in non stop
pretending they're smarter than everybody else. Damn funny non stop
show.

Actually, no, it's not quite true. The computer I first upgraded to Vista was a year old and had plenty of memory, etc., and I still had an incredibly bad time for about four weeks with Vista. My new HP laptop (sounds similar to the one the original poster bought) works beautifully with Vista, but of course, it came with Vista pre-installed and ready to go. What galls me is that I still can't find a whole lot more to love about Vista, even when it works beautifully. Cuter "windows," some search functions that make my life easier on occasion, but otherwise...feh.
