| | Vista Crashes after approx 1 hour of playing MP3 music files every I have Vista Ultimate installed on a system I built with a P5N32 SLI Premium ASUS motherboard, Intel 6300 Processor and 2 gigs of Ram. The video card is a EVGA 7950 Nvidia chipset. Every time I try to play my MP3 music library the system crashes after playing for an hour to an hour and 15 minutes. This happens weather I am using Windows Media Player or Media center to play the music files. I have noticed it is making some type of dump file. After the system restarts I see a message that Windows has crashed due to some type of error and Windows will notify me if a fix is available. This has been going on for months now. I am ready to give up on this and try some other OS. Where can I start to try to diagnose why this is happening? Help! |

| | Re: Vista Crashes after approx 1 hour of playing MP3 music files every Mind if I ask, are you using on-board audio with your motherboard or are you using a standalone audio card? For example, a onboard sound card versus a creative audigy 2zs? If motherboard, how recently have you updated your bios in case its an irq conflict or something strange hardware related? If standalone or motherboard, how recently have you updated your sound card drivers? In regards to diagnosing the problem, there's a tool called 'Event Viewer' that lists error codes when applications close/exist unexpectedly that might if you an error code like 0x0404831A you could try googling for a possible fix/patch/solution/others sharing your pain. Event Viewer can be found via Start Search: Start > Start Search > Type Event > Click on Event Viewer under Programs. I guess you might have tried some of these solutions but if you've tried them all, well you can always check your event viewer for an error code so we can try to help you out with this further or so you can google. |

| | Re: Vista Crashes after approx 1 hour of playing MP3 music files every Hi, If you haven't it tried it yet, I sugest going to the device manager and making sure you don't have a driver problem. Also, if you report the problem to MS, (the error message should allow you to do this) they usually find as much about the problem as they can and give you the info on it. This is sometimes useful in fixing the problem. -- Larry Maturo "htguru" <htguru@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:FAA4F5B5-7795-4FE2-97AE-38202DC04D36@microsoft.com... >I have Vista Ultimate installed on a system I built with a P5N32 SLI >Premium > ASUS motherboard, Intel 6300 Processor and 2 gigs of Ram. | | Re: Vista Crashes after approx 1 hour of playing MP3 music files e Do you mean just looking in device manager to see if there is some kind of flag that one of the drivers is marked as a problem? How do I report it to Microsoft? The error message just says it will let me know if there is a fix. Thanks for the reply.
