Ask Lotus. Microsoft is not responsible for Lotus.

Hi Jon
You'd think, went to Lotus SmartSuite, page and went to there support page.
Talks about the previous OS, of windows and which ones are supported, it
says they don't support Vista and any problems go to Microsoft support. It
also says that they are not aware of any conflicts with Vista.
Yours Chris
You might try right clicking on the install file and go to "Run As
Administrator". If that still doesn't work, right click, go to properties,
then on Compatibility. Select Windows XP SP2, and run as administrator.
If those don't work, let us know.
It sounds like it isn't running with admin privledges and needs them to
access the registry.

Yeah well immediately after I posted the URL there I went back to read it
out of curiosity, saw the link to support.microsoft.com, and sent IBM a
nastygram comment saying they shouldn't be referring users to Microsoft
support; Microsoft has fully documented the breaking changes in Vista and it
is entirely up to Lotus developers to update their product to work properly
with Vista.
Jon
like someone else pointed out, try running the installer with the "Run as
Administrator" feature.
that being said, I've used Lotus Approach and other parts of SmartSuite for
many years. it's not the best of products, and I know IBM doesn't care much
about it either.

Thanks Guys for all your kind assistance, used the run as administrator and
got it to install.
Now all I have to do is learn to use it.
Yours Chris
I'm using the WordPro part of SmartSuite 9.8 under VISTA.
I installed from the CD but used the Compatibility Mode and Run as
Administrator as "Dustin Harper" suggests. You can do this all in one
operation if you right mouse click on the file that starts the
Installation -- probably setup.exe (make sure you have View set to show
extensions) Select Properties / Compatibility TAB and XP with SP2 and
then check [X] Run as Administrator.
That means you have to turn off / stop Autoplay from running.
Note I only installed Word Pro by doing a custom install and
deselecting everything but WordPro.
Can't do without the world's best Word Processor at my age! I used to
be on the Loutus L-Team <g>

Hi. I used Smartsuite for years. Loved those little boxes where everything
you could possibly want would be available in the one place. No trolling
through endless exploding menus to locate the function you needed.
Nowadays I'm using Textmaker and Planmaker, which work brilliantly on Vista,
but there are times I feel tempted to toss my old Smartsuite CD into the
drive and install it for nostalgia's sake. It was a very fine product.

Hi Hugh
Like I said I have managed to get the software to install.
The only problems I have now are; Vista, doesn't support help files and if I
wish to apply the latest fixes to Lotus SmartSuite, to bring it up to 9.8.4,
apparently I have to pay for it!
Yours Chris
