XP to Vista

My Windows XP is not genuine, I want to upgrade to genuine Windows Vista.
I think, Vista upgrade will not work whith not genuine Windows XP.
So I need to buy Windows Vista full edition.
Can be Vista full edition installed as upgrade over existing (not genuine)
XP sp2?

Re: XP to Vista

Uninstall your pirated XP and install the full version of Vista as a clean install. Save your personal files if needed and then format and install Vista

Re: XP to Vista

You might be able to get away with it, but it's not a 'legal' upgrade path.
If you have a CD from any legal version of W2K NT or XP, you should be legal
with an upgrade version.

I can't answer the question you asked, but I can anticipate what
information others may need from you.

What is your reason for wanting to upgrade rather that do a fresh
install? If you are attempting to avoid re-installing other
(non-Vista) application software, you may be in for many headaches
by doing the upgrade path. There are quite a few apps out there
which won't run properly yet under Vista.

If there is some other reason for wanting to go the upgrade route
you should should make it clear from the outset because it may
make a big difference in what you need to do.

Re: XP to Vista

Vista upgrade versions do not prompt for a prior legal cd. Upgrade versions are installed by starting the install from within the prior legal o/s.
