| | Re: Corrupted DVD driver Hi all, I just purchased a Toshiba Laptop, running Vista Premium, and after a massive Windows update download, the DVD-CD drive didn't work. Error message 39, corrupt or missing driver. The driver isn't missing, so it must be corrupt. Have followed the above instructions regarding upper and lower filters, except haen't actioned the removal yet, as there doesn't appear to be an upper filter listed... only the lower filter. Also, the information states "you may lose functionality in certain programs such as CD recording programs. In this scenario, you must reinstall any affected programs." which is a problem, as everything was already loaded and no software came with the laptop. I'm a little chicken to go ahead and remove the lower filter registry entry, seeing as there's no upper entry to delete. What do you think I should do??? | | Re: Corrupted DVD driver Hi Annie. read this.. To solve this Code 39 error, follow these instructions: NOTE: After removing these registry keys and rebooting, it may be necessary to reinstall any CD or DVD recording applications. 1) Close all open programs 2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter 3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Control Class {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} 4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column. UpperFilters LowerFilters UpperFilters.bak LowerFilters.bak 5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete 6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor 7) Reboot your computer 8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone. It worked for me. -- tek101 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ tek101's Profile: http://winvistaclub.com/forum/member.php?userid=441 View this thread: http://winvistaclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22123 |

| | Re: Corrupted DVD driver Thanks to all for the solution. The next thing I guess is; how do I get my hands on a copy of the software to reinstall the dvd player so it will record... not just play, but the notebook didn't have any cd's with purchase. This really is a bit much. I purchased this model (Toshiba Satellite L300, model PSLBOA-08H022) because I want to save large graphic files to DVD discs. Buying a new notebook, I thought I'd be free of problems, but after reading all the google stuff on Toshiba Satellites and Vista, I feel I probably should have researched further before buying! Makes me scared to download anymore Vista updates! I appreciate the input from all of you. Where would us novices be without you. -- anniebird ------------------------------------------------------------------------ anniebird's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/anniebird.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/771598.htm http://forums.techarena.in |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: Corrupted DVD driver Thanks Wallace, Peter & Don! My DVD is now working and no need to restore computer. For anyone wanting to try this fix, go to your Windows Help and type in "Registry Editor" for information on how to find and backup registry data. Find the correct registry subkey by following step 2 and then back it up per help instructions. Then follow steps 3-7 given in Don's resolution. Follow step 2 on this exactly! Acer Aspire 5920 Windows Vista Home Premium HL-DT-ST-DVDRAM GSA-T20N Device I have forwarded this information to Acer support. |
