| | Windows (Vista) Start Up Error Message Upon starting up my computer, I sometimes (but not always) get a message stating a failure for Windows start up normally. Two options are given: 1) to let Windows try to find and fix the problem (recommended) or 2) let Windows go ahead and start up. Option 1 takes a long time, goes through some installation process, and has not permanently fixed the problem; I go with number 2 which does open Windows and there are no further problems. What is the cause of this and does it need to be addressed? -- Stephen -- Stephen |

Have you looked at the event logs? Lang |

"Windows could not start normally." or "Windows was not shut down properly" Something like that. Then look at the events prior to that. Good luck! Post back if you find anything of interest... Lang |

| | Re: Windows (Vista) Start Up Error Message four event types are listed: error, warning, information, audit success and audit failure. I do see many errors, none specific to "Windows was not shut down properly" would it be helpful to email you the log (and how might that be done)? Thanks for your help. If so, then there should be a system event that discloses the details of the chkdsk. You'd want to look at the logs immediately after the event occurs. Lang |
