| Guest | Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007 I have installed Vista Home Premium and following instructions with the software, backed up my docs etc and Outlook on an external hard drive. Restored backup to Vista, everything is fine except that I do not have any of my email, which came from 2 different computers, but both from backup. Any assistance to recover would be appreciated. Thanks -- bazzandjo |

Any Did you back up your Outlook PST file(s)? Outlook keeps your email in a file called Outlook.PST. By default, this is kept at C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook (on XP). If you only backed up C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\My Documents, and did not also back up your PST file, then your email has probably been lost. Search for any file called *.PST. After you install Outlook in the new Vista installation, go to File, Import and Export, Import from another program or file, and browse to the location of your PST file. Select it to import the email into your new Inbox. Hope it helps, -- Andrew McLaren amclar (at) optusnet dot com dot au |

| Guest | Re: Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007 Thanks for your reply. I used Live One Care Back up and restore, and as far as I am aware the .ost files were included as it listed Outlook. I nhave followed the instructions for replacing the emails, but so far have not had any luck at all. I am beginning to doubt my purchase of Vista I must admit, as I have also had problem getting it to recognise my wireless cards, now fixed, and my removable hard drive, still not fixed. Mail remains my immediate problem however, as there are many emails -- bazzandjo "Andrew McLaren" wrote: > "bazzandjo" <bazzandjo@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote ... > > software, backed up my docs etc and Outlook on an external hard drive. > > Restored backup to Vista, everything is fine except that I do not have any > > of > > my email, which came from 2 different computers, but both from backup. | Guest | Re: Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007 "do NOT IMPORT". Go to File-Open-Outlook Data File in Outlook and open it that way. Why not import? Courtesy of Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] <russval@mvps.org> Here's why. Importing PST's will lose: 1. Custom Forms 2. Custom Views 3. Connections between contacts and activities 4. Received dates on mail 5. Birthdays and anniversaries in calendar 6. Journal connections 7. Distribution Lists Opening a PST file will preserve all of these. That is why we do not advise people to import a native file into Outlook. did you try copying the pst to the drive yourself and verifying it was marked for read/write? Not Importing -- Peter Please Reply to Newsgroup for the benefit of others Requests for assistance by email can not and will not be acknowledged. | Guest | Re: Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007 Thanks for your reply Peter. I have looked under File;Data File Management; and in Data Files there are files shown for: Archive Folders----Archive.pst form 5-7-07 from my backup, and Personal Folders----Outlook.pst default. I am not very computer literate as you can most likely tell, but when I use the File-Open-Outlook method mentioned in your reply, I get nowhere. Quite obviously I am not doing something I should be, but do not know what. Your help is greatly appreciated, as is any others help. -- bazzandjo "Peter Foldes" wrote: > "do NOT IMPORT". > Go to File-Open-Outlook Data File in Outlook and open it that way. > Why not import? > > Courtesy of Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] <russval@mvps.org> > > Here's why. | Guest | Re: Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007 Thanks again for your reply Peter. I have read each of the articles you listed, and tried tomapply them, but to no avail. I have spent some 9 hours today without luck. Each of these articles appears to me to not consider Outlook 2007. I am trying to transfer my Outlook 2003 files which I have backed up successfully, put on my HDD successfully, looked to make sure they are there, but can find no way to get them into Outlook 2007. I have searched the Office 207 site, and cannot find anything either. Do you know anything else that may help? I am at my wits end with this, and have very little hair left to tear out!! Thank you again. -- bazzandjo "Peter Foldes" wrote: > Read these links for a better understanding and how to do it but read the below by Russ Valentine first before you do anything. > > http://www.slipstick.com/config/backup.htm > http://www.howto-outlook.com/Howto/backupandrestore.htm > http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/as...771141033.aspx > > > Also here is a snip below from Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] which is important since MS has not corrected this yet in Outlook > > >snip> > > Importing PST's will lose: > > 1.
