| | Vista Does Not Allow me to Save to C drive Why does Vista stop me from saving a file where ever I want? It will not allow me to save a file to my C:\ . It makes me save it to a folder under the C:\. Boy do I miss Windows XP SP2. Security is one thing, but give me a break, there are some of us out there that know what they are doing. -- eclecticats@verizon.net |

| | Re: Vista Does Not Allow me to Save to C drive Hello, do you have write access to C:\? Check on it: Right-click the harddisk, click "Properties" -> tab "Security". If you are not listed or don't have enough permissions, click "Edit" -> give access to your user name. Please report if there's an issue. Greetings, P. This is just one of the problems people who know what they are doing may run into: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320397/ There are others. -- Regards, Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User (For email, remove the obvious from my address) "The Cat's Meow" <eclecticats@verizon.net> wrote in message news:C98A2199-664A-49BC-9BBD-DE37794B20EE@microsoft.com... > Why does Vista stop me from saving a file where ever I want? > It will not allow me to save a file to my C:\ . | | Re: Vista Does Not Allow me to Save to C drive I dont think he was asking if it was a good idea. He was asking about being able to do it. I admit I get sick of the trolls on this board, but I am also tired of seeing someone with a question about vista getting told "Microsoft took out that feature because you dont really want to do that." or my personal favorite "Buy a different software that is compatible." Having said that.. I can save to my C without issue. I would ensure that you have an admin acct or have write permissions to the drive. Happy Friday everyone! Suggestion to Richie, spend more time actually learning what you're doing instead of all the time you spend trying to make us believe you know what you're doing. |

The application requires administrative rights to write to that location, that means the application you're using will need to be elevated beforehand, typically by right-clicking and selecting Run as administrator. > Boy do I miss Windows XP SP2. However as Richard said, write to the user folder instead, that's what its there for. -- Paul Smith, Yeovil, UK. Windows is not preventing you from doing it, it is preventing the application from doing it, because the application did not ask you for admin power. In Windows Vista, applications are supposed to ask you for your permission whenever they want to perform an admin action. This one doesn't (and I am sad to say there are some MS applications in Vista that don't do this correctly either). -- -JB Microsoft MVP - Windows Shell/User Windows Vista Support FAQ - http://www.jimmah.com/vista/ |
