Re: help installing beta (Total Failure)

Hi,

The hardware requirements are the same for all versions of Vista, having
basic versus having ultimate will make no difference. What you likely need
are a proper set of supporting graphics drivers. For these you should check
with Dell or the manufacturer of the motherboard.

You probably only needed proper graphics card drivers. Look up your card
model on the manufacturer website and see if they have any. Did you try
changing the resolution on desktop settings? Increase to a higher
resolution if you can, you might have been set at 640x480 by error.

Download and run the Vista Upgrade Advisor. It will report items that need
your attention before installing Vista, such as software to remove and
driver issues.

Stick with XP. Please don't take this the wrong way but WinVISTA Beta
is not for you as it requires a level of competency above being able to
use Windows. Using a BETA for you will be nothing but frustrating as
you aren't able to resolve what is essentially a fairly rudimentary
problem without asking for help so some of the things you're likely to
come up against will have you tearing your hear out.

RE: help installing beta (Total Failure)

Onboard graphics are terrible at best with vista, please consider upgrading
to a dedicated graphics card.

The 2400 has Intel 845 graphics, which is NOT DX9 compatible and therefore
inadequate for Vista.

You can purchase a PCI (NOT PCIe) nVidia FX5500 which should be fine, or use
a machine powerful enough for Vista.

I like my 2400 and use it for some things, but wouldn't consider it for my
Vista test.

Re: help installing beta (Total Failure)

I have installed Vista x32 onto a P4 2.4Ghz Intel M/B with an 845 graphics
card. At first the screen was pixelated but I used the 865 driver on the DVD
to correct the problem. Then I went into "Device Manager" and did an
upgrade of the graphics driver via the web and it found a 845 driver and now
I can reset the resolution to 1280 x 1024.

Hope that helps.

Peter
