| | Re: help installing beta (Total Failure) Hi, The hardware requirements are the same for all versions of Vista, having basic versus having ultimate will make no difference. What you likely need are a proper set of supporting graphics drivers. For these you should check with Dell or the manufacturer of the motherboard. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "dale" <dale@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:C2DC9683-EEC5-4134-9C47-FB48F508C0BF@microsoft.com... > ok. i did not know that i had an "ultimate product key". i knew my > computer > could not run aero. cause i have 64mb card. i installed vista. complete > disaster. everything in my screen had horrible graphics, everything tinted > rainbow color, the screen was "pixel-ish", taskbar deformed. everything > was > wrong so i just put xp back on my comp. do i need a different product key > or > what? can my computer not run any version of vista? > i have 768 mb dell dimension 2400 w/64mb integrated graphics. > I NEED ALL THE HELP POSSIBLE! Look up your card model on the manufacturer website and see if they have any. Did you try changing the resolution on desktop settings? Increase to a higher resolution if you can, you might have been set at 640x480 by error. |

| | Re: help installing beta (Total Failure) Download and run the Vista Upgrade Advisor. It will report items that need your attention before installing Vista, such as software to remove and driver issues. Using a BETA for you will be nothing but frustrating as you aren't able to resolve what is essentially a fairly rudimentary problem without asking for help so some of the things you're likely to come up against will have you tearing your hear out. -- Conor Who the **** said I was trying to endear myself to anyone? |

| | RE: help installing beta (Total Failure) Onboard graphics are terrible at best with vista, please consider upgrading to a dedicated graphics card. You can purchase a PCI (NOT PCIe) nVidia FX5500 which should be fine, or use a machine powerful enough for Vista. I like my 2400 and use it for some things, but wouldn't consider it for my Vista test. Tom |

| | Re: help installing beta (Total Failure) I have installed Vista x32 onto a P4 2.4Ghz Intel M/B with an 845 graphics card. At first the screen was pixelated but I used the 865 driver on the DVD to correct the problem. Then I went into "Device Manager" and did an upgrade of the graphics driver via the web and it found a 845 driver and now I can reset the resolution to 1280 x 1024. Hope that helps.
