Right on article, interesting comments ...

Takes awhile, but the computing public is slowing learning the truth. At
least those with some intelligence.

Shake Hands With,
Mr. Happy

Before you flame me be advised I dual boot Vista and Ubuntu on the computer
I am typing this on. I have been a Linux user for many years. I believe
Ubuntu may be a desktop alternative for some people. That said the article
is full of FUD.

1. A dedicated graphics card is not required, neither is a USB flash drive.
This computer has neither and works very well with Vista using Aero.

2. I agree with this but will say that every time Microsoft does include
more or improved applications with Windows they face anti-trust suits.

3. This is a big strength with some distros. Ubuntu included.

4. Totally false. Linux is inherently more secure but security is not an
absolute thing. It is just as susceptible to bugs and exploits and thus
malware. It is not targeted as much. Once it becomes financially viable to
target Linux (and Linux apps) they will have the same problem as any other
complex program. Bugs will be found and exploited.

5. A big strength of Linux, especially with servers.

6. The same as five so I guess the list should be nine instead of ten
things.

7. Not sure if this is an advantage or disadvantage. I know I wouldn't want
to upgrade 1,000 systems every six months. For a home user or small network
this may be an advantage.

8. I don't like WGA but I can understand why it's in place. I sell Microsoft
products. My sales, particularly of Office have increased dramatically since
Microsoft has made it harder to pirate their software. This is a fundamental
difference in the way the software is distributed. I'm neutral on this one
as I have a vested interest.

9. This is a strength and a weakness. I love the choice Linux gives me. I
wouldn't want to support it. If I had to support it I'd limit the choices.

10. This is subjective. Again I have a vested interest because I run a Vista
help site so I'm biased and won't comment.

The article is obviously slanted towards Linux and does nothing to help
Linux. FUD is FUD and is never a good thing. Linux and Ubuntu have many
strong points. FUD is not needed when comparing Linux to Windows. Both stand
on there own merits.

Yes, they are learning that you get what you pay for. Food and
clothes are also available for free, but I have no need/desire you use
them either.

Did you install the .NET updates today, Dick? Please do and post back
about how groovy your experience is.

Alias, who has installed Ubuntu on five machines with no problems,
including two laptops.
