| Guest | Re: Chkdsk in VISTA Try running chkdsk booting from a Vista installation DVD, by using the "Repair your computer" Command Prompt option. Type "chkdsk /?" (without quotes) for the available parameters. This requires exclusive access to the volume. The fact that it fails to run and tells you that it cannot lock or get an exclusive handle to the volume indicates that you have another utility which is starting up prior to the launching of and commands in the BOOTEXECUTE registry key. Microsoft has a free nify tool call AUTORUNS to help you identify what is getting started up on your system and in what sequence. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys.../Autoruns.mspx Use this to identify the source of who is accessing the disk that prevents CHKDSK from running. Thanks, Howard Butler Diskeeper Corporation |
